1. SCOPE

1.1 This Procedure covers the preservation and protection to prevent corrosion and
deterioration of vessels.

2. REFERENCE

This procedure shall comply the entire requirement mentioned in

2.1 32-SAMSS-004

3. PROCEDURE

Vessel shall be protected against corrosion during shipping and at fabrication yard and construction
sites. Vessel shall be completely and thoroughly dried and clean from all loose scales, weld slags,
dirt and debris to the satisfaction for the client inspector.

3.1 EXTERNAL PROTECTION

3.1.1 The protection of external surfaces shall be obtained by using one of the following:

a) Prepare the surface and apply the complete (primer and final coatings)
Client surface preparation, and coating and painting system in
the shop.

3.1.2 Telltale holes in reinforcing pads shall be protected with wooden plugs which are
not capable for the retaining the pressure.

3.1.3 Flange connections and all other machined surfaces shall be protected by a
coating suitable for the metallurgy of the vessel and can be easily removed in the
field. Connections shall be fitted with steel or wood cover, 3 mm. thick and
full face neoprene gaskets.

3.1.4 Covers shall be securely attached by a minimum of four bolts equally spaced.
For ocean shipment, flanged connections shall also be covered with heavy-duty
plastic bags securely taped to the nozzles.

3.1.5 Flanges with permanent blind flanges or covers shall be secured with the gaskets
and bolting specified for service.

3.1.6 All markings on vessels shall be done with water-insoluble materials that
contain no harmful substances that would attack or harmfully affect the vessel
base metal or its coating at both ambient and design temperature.

3.1.7 Marking material shall be free of lead, sulfur, zinc, cadmium, mercury, chlorine,
or any other halogens.

3.1.8 Vessels partially shop fabricated and / or liable to suffer distortion during transit
and erection shall be suitably braced. All ends that will be open during shipment
shall be covered to prevent ingress of the dirt and other foreign material.

3.2 INTERNAL PROTECTION

3.2.1 Thoroughly dry the internal surface of the vessel. Remove all free water.
Thoroughly purge vessel with dry air so that relative humidity inside vessel is
less than 40% at the lowest ambient temperature likely to be experienced in
Shipping and storage.

3.2.2 Ensure the vessels and internals being shipped are adequately braced and shall
provide temporary supports where appropriate to ensure adequate supporting
of the vessel during shipment.

3.2.3 The interior surfaces of vessels, including internals, shall be protected from
Corrosion by the use of powder vapor phase corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI) such
as CORTEC VPCI-309 applied at the rate of 0.3 Kg. per cubic meter.

2 3.2.4 All removable internals of all items of this RFP shall be supplied and installed
by vendor at shop and delivered together with the equipment.

4.0 REMOVAL OF PRESERVATION

4.1 Preservation shall be maintained through mechanical completion and removed only during
commissioning.

4.2 Should it be necessary to remove any preservative to allow the testing or inspection of an
item, preservatives shall be reapplied upon completion.

4.3 During pre-commissioning activities, the preservation shall be removed as follows;

i. Vapor Phase corrosion inhibition (VPCl 309), does not need to be removed according to
the manufacturing company (Cortec) recommendation if applied in liquid form. However,
if required to be removed, low pressure air gun or water rinsing may be used.
