The triangles and its properties

Classification of triangles
 According to sides :
Triangles can be classified into three types
according to their sides.
i ) Equilateral triangle : A triangle with all its sides equal
is called as equilateral triangle.
(eg) :

In the given figure, AB = BC = AC

∴ ⍙ABC is an equilateral triangle.
ii ) Isosceles Triangle
A triangle with two equal sides is called an isosceles
triangle.
(eg) :

In the given figure, AB = AC,

∴ ⍙ABC is an isosceles triangle.
iii) Scalene triangle

In the given figure, AB ≠ BC ≠ AC,

∴ ⍙ABC is a scalene triangle.
 According to angles :
i ) Acute angled triangle
A triangle with all three angles as an acute angle is
called as acute angled triangle.
(eg) :

In the given figure, all the angles, i.e., ∠A, ∠B and ∠C are
less than 90˚.
∴ ⍙ABC is an acute angled triangle.

ii) Obtuse angled triangle :

A triangle with one obtuse angle and two acute angles
are called as acute angled triangle.
(eg) :

In the given figure, ⍙ABC has ∠B as an obtuse angle, ∠A

and ∠C as acute angles so it is an obtuse angled triangle.

iii) Right angled triangle :

A triangle with one right angle and two acute angles so
it is an obtuse angled triangle.
