SOME APPLICATIONS OF
TRIGONOMETRY
 Main use in Construction or else this field of
mathematics can be applied in astronomy, navigation,
acoustics medical imaging civil engineering, seismology,
electrical engineering phonetics, chemistry, number
theory and many more.
HISTORY

 The Origins of trigonometry can be traced to the

civilizations of ancinet Egypt, Mesopotamia and
the Indus Valley, more than 4000 years ago.
Some experts believe that trigonometry was
originally invented to calculate
Sundials.
 The First recorded use of

trigonometry came from the

Hellinistic mathematician Circa
in 150 BC.
 Many mathemiticians like Aryabhatta

Ibn Yunus and Al-Kashi also contributed

significantly
TRIGONOMETRY
 Trigonometry is derived from Greek words trigonon
(three angles) and metron (measure).
 Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics which deals
with triangles, particularly triangles in a plane where one
angles of the triangle is 90
 Trigonometry specifically deals with relationships
between the sides and the angles of a triangle, i.e. on the
trigonometric functions, and with calculations based on
these functions.
 This also means that :-

 A corresponds to X

 B corresponds to Y

 C corresponds to Z

For any two congruent triangles the corresponding parts

are equal and are termed as :-

PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
 In any triangle, the area of the square whose
side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the
areas of the squares whose sides are the two legs.

SAS CONGRUENCE
INTRODUCTION
 We know that a closed figure formed by three
interesecting lines is called a triangle ( “ Tri ” means ‘
Three ’). A triangle has three sides, three angles and three
vertices. For e.g.- in Triangle ABC, denoted as ABC
AB,BC,CA are the three sides, <A,<B,<C are three angles
and A,B,C are three vertices.
A

B C
 Now we see that sides of ABC coincides with sides
of XYZ

A X

B C Y Z

Here, ABC ≈ XYZ

Two Triangles are Congruent, if all the sides and all the
Angles of one Triangle are Equal to the Corresponding
sides and Angles of the other Traingle.

CRITERIAS FOR CONGRUENCE OF
TWO TRIANGLES
RIGHT TRIANGLE
 A Traingle in which one angle is equal to 90
is called a right angled triangle.
 The side opposite to the right angle

is known as hypotenuse.
AC is the hypotenuse
 The other two sides are

knows as legs or base and

altitude
AB and AC are base and
altitude respectively
IN ANY TRIANGLE, THE SIDE
OPPOSITE TO THE LOGNER ANGLES
IS LONGER.

 Here, by comparing we will get that

side (i.e.10) opposite to longer angle (90)
is longer.

corresponding angles are equal and
corresponding sides are equal :-
TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS
 Sine (Sin) Opposite side / Hypotenuse
 Cosine (Cos) Adjacent side / Hypotenuse
 Tangent (Tan) Opposite side / Adjacent side
 Cosecant (coses) Hypotenuse / Opposite side
 Secant (Sec) Hypotenuse / Adjacent side
 Cotangent (Cot) Adjacent side / Opposite side
PROPERTIES OF TRIANGLE

 A Traingle in which two sides are equal in length is

called ISOSCELES TRIANGLE. So, ABC is a
isosceles triangle with AB = BC.
