DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Proposal for Students Workshop for the Session 2019-20

Semester - III and V semester

Tentative Dates –16 to 18 August, 2019

Theme – 1 Design of Electrical Vehicle

The workshop will deal with electrical vehicle design including the design of the vehicle components,
system level design and optimization as well as the infrastructure design.

It will help the students to understand the requirement for the infrastructure, including various charging
and power distribution solutions, required for electrical vehicles and will be competent to evaluate an
electrical vehicle design and infrastructure, design using simulation tools.

Pre- Requisites: Elementary Knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Design Calculations for EVs.

Theme – 2 Design of SCADA and its Hardware Interface.

The workshop will deal with design of personalized SCADA systems along with its hardware
interface with basic Electrical & Electronic circuits

SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) is a type of software application program for
process control. It is a central control system which consist of controllers network interfaces,
input/output, communication equipment and software. SCADA systems are used to monitor and
control the equipment in the industrial process which includes manufacturing, production,
development and fabrication. The infrastructural processes include gas and oil distribution, electrical
power, water distribution. Public utilities include bus traffic system, airport.

Pre- Requisites: Elementary Knowledge of Electronic Circuits, Relay, Motors.

Theme – 3 Machine Learning with R Language/ Python.

2.1 Machine Learning with R Language:

This introductory workshop on machine learning with R is aimed at participants who are not experts in
machine learning (introductory material will be presented as part of the course), but have some
familiarity with programming in general. The workshop will offer a hands-on overview of typical
machine learning applications in R, including unsupervised (clustering, such as hierarchical and k -
means clustering, and dimensionality reduction, such as principal component analysis) and supervised
methods (classification and regression, such as k-nearest neighbor and linear regression).
Pre- Requisites: Elementary Knowledge of R Language.

2.2 Machine Learning with Python:

Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides computers with the ability to learn
without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of Computer
Programs that can change when exposed to new data. In this article, we’ll see basics of Machine
Learning, and implementation of a simple machine learning algorithm using python.

Pre- Requisites: Elementary Knowledge of Python.

Reference: 3-4 hours lectures from CSE Faculty Member.

Theme – 4 Big Data with Hadoop

Hadoop is an open source distributed processing framework that manages data processing and storage for
big data applications running in clustered systems. It is at the center of a growing ecosystem of big data
technologies that are primarily used to support advanced analytics initiatives, including predictive
analytics, data mining and machine learning applications. Hadoop can handle various forms of structured
and unstructured data, giving users more flexibility for collecting, processing and analyzing data than
relational databases and data warehouses provide.

Pre- Requisites: Elementary Knowledge of MS Excel.
