Smoking Impact on Grade 9 Students

This document appears to be an outline for a research paper on the effects of cigarette smoking among grade 9 students at Addition Hills Integrated School. The summary includes an introduction on smoking and its health risks. It then outlines the objectives, methodology, literature review, and overall structure of the paper. The research aims to understand why students smoke and the health effects, and to identify how smoking can be avoided. A survey will be conducted among grade 9 students to collect data on their smoking habits and knowledge.

ABSTRACT

Abstracts should be about 250 words long. Even though it comes first in your

paper, it should be written last. It is a concise summary of your study.

(THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE. MAKE YOUR OWN.)

This research is about the students who smoke cigarettes at their young age.

Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco, encased in cigarettes

pipes, and cigars. The researchers focus is to know the bad effects of smoking

and the reasons why they smoke. The researchers conduct a survey using a

dichotomous questionnaire. The researchers chose two sections from grade 9

students to answer the questionnaire. We found out that students smoke either to

look cool or to relieve their stress.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

(THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE. MAKE YOUR OWN.)

First and foremost, the researchers would like to thank our dearest God for guiding

us while doing this research and making it successfully done. A special thanks also

to Ms. Hannah Faye Padolina for giving us this opportunity on having a research

about the “EFFECTS OF CIGARETTES SMOKING IN GRADE 9 STUDENTS OF

ADDITION HILLS INTEGRATED SCHOOL “. To our research adviser Ms.Ofelia

Trinidad by helping us edit this research. To our respondents the grade 9 students

by cooperating with us. Lastly our team members who trusted themselves that it is

possible to work for this research. God Bless us all.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

1. Background of the Study – includes purpose and reason behind the

conduct of the study. (What made you conduct the study?) Also serves as

the introduction.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco. Encased in

cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only

occationally, usually in a social situation or to relieve stressed. A smoking habit is

a physical addiction tobacco products. Many health experts now regard habitual

smoking as a psychological, too, and one with serious health consequences.

There is a great wealth of scientific evidence demonstrating the detrimental

health effect on smokers, including increased risks of heart diseases, lung cancer

and other respiratory diseases.

B. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Significance of the Study – (Why conduct the study?) You have to

identify who will benefit from the research and how they will be benefitted.

This should match with the Recommendations.

FOR EXAMPLE:

In this research you will find out the different effects of smoking cigarettes.

Cigarettes contains different chemicals like nicotin, tar, and carbon monoxide that

can harmly affect our health condition.

Smoking is a leading cause of cancer and death from cancer. It causes

cancer of the lung, esophagus, larynx, mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, pancreas,

stomach, cervix, colon, and rectum, as well as acute myeloid leukemia.

C.OBJECTIVES

a. Statement of the Problem

The main problem that the research is trying to solve. It follows the

formulation of the title and should be faithful to it. It specifically points the

important questions that the study needs to answer.

b. General Objectives:

c. Specific Objectives:

This study also aims to:

 Know why do students smoke cigarettes

 Identify what are the bad effects of smoking cigarettes

 Know how would they avoid smoking cigarettes

D.DEFINITION OF TERMS

defines technical terms based on how they are used in the study,

specifically in the title. This aims to provide the readers or future

researches with the basic terminologies that are important to understand

the paper.

Any words, phrases, acronyms, etc. that will be used in your paper, specific

to your research, will be defined in this section. Terms should be defined

in the context of how they are used in the study.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Carbon monoxide – a colorless, odorless toxic flammable gas formed by

incomplete combustion of carbon.

Cigarette – a small roll of paper that is filled with cut tobacco and smoke.

Nicotine – a poisonous substance in tobacco that makes it difficult for people to

stop smoking cigarettes.

Smoke – the cloud of black, gray, or white gases and dust that is produce by

something.

Tar – a very thick , black, sticky liquid made from coal that becomes hard when it

cools and that is use specially use for road surfaces .

CHAPTER 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

A literature review summarizes what is already known (and what is not

known) about your topic. In essay form, the researcher identifies and

analyzes the already published literature that is most relevant to the

research project to be undertaken.

(FOR EXAMPLE)

According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, Statistic from the centers for Disease control and

prevention (CPC) nearby out of every 100 vs. adults aged 18 years or older 17.8

percent smoke cigarettes today. This means an estimated 42.1 million adults in

the United States are cigarette smokers. On average smoking causes 480,000

deaths per year in the country which is highly 1,300 deaths per day it is expected

that eight million people will die in 2030 if the current smoking rate continues.

Smoking is said to stimulate pleasing and enjoyable emotions and smokers claim

that it helps boost their mood, alleviates minor depression and small fits of anger,

improves concentration and short term memory, and can also provide a modest

sense of well-being. This is because cigarettes contain the addictive substance

nicotine that stimulates dopamine in the brain, which is responsible for the

pleasurable sensations
Moreover, Dr. Patricia Macnair, hospital physician also said that most people

know that smoking can cause lung cancer, but it can also cause many other cancer

and illnesses. Smoking directly causes over 100,000 deaths in the UK each year

and contributes too many more of these deaths. About 42,000 are from smoking

related cancer, 30,600 from cardiovascular disease and 29,100 die slowly

emphysema, bronchitis and other chronic lung diseases.

Lastly, Dr.Alison Barnise, added that smoking conventional cigarettes is bad for

you .And so do the 10 million people in the UK that currently smoke. But the effects

of the option available to you as an alternative to tobacco are less clear. Especially

considering that traditional nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and other

prescription drugs to help people stop smoking bupropion and varenicline are

being eclipse by the e-cigarettes.

CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes all the necessary procedures undertaken by the

researcher to achieve a successful outcome for this study. In particular, this

chapter contains the research design of this study, the research methods,

the subject of the study, and the instruments used.

(FOR EXAMPLE)

a. Respondents of the study

The researchers chose grade 9 students in Addition Hills Integrated

School to answer the questionnaire. There are 22 female and 16 male,

ages are ranging from 14-17 years old.

b. Procedures of data gathering

First, on February 17, 2016 the researchers made a questionnaire for our

research asking about how cigarette smoking affect the health of every

grade 9 students. The researchers chose dichotomous questionnaire so

that it will be easy for the respondent to answer all the questions. The

researchers photocopied the questionnaires and then started conducting a

survey in grade 9 students.
