OUT.  TRAIN  TRACKS  –  DAY  WIDE  SHOT

Jason  walks  towards  the  camera  on  the  train  tracks.  His  eyes  look  dead.
He  is  dragging  a  bloody  ax  and  his  shirt  is  covered  in  blood.

OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  CLOSE  UP
Jason  wakes  up  in  the  dock  area  of  his  home  town  .  He  is  lying  on  the
ground  with  his  head  facing  a  dead  zombie.  Shocked,  he  leaps  up,  unsure
of  what  to  do.  The  zombie’s  eyes  are  glazed  over.  There  is  no  movement.
Jason  waits  a  moment  to  move,  frozen  in  fear.  Finally,  he  scrambles  away
and  starts  to  grasp  his  surroundings.

Jason  notices  his  arm,  which  has  been  bitten,  but  now  looks  like  it  has
been  burned  over.    He  touches  it  and  winces  at  the  pain,  but  it  is  not
bleeding  and  it  does  not  seem  infected.

Jason  walks  around  and  finds  only  desolation.  He  is  stunned  by  the  fact
that  no  one  is  working  or  even  questioning  his  walking  around  apparent
private  property.  As  he  is  wandering  around,  he  sees  a  car  with  someone
in  the  drivers  seat.

JASON
(to  the  DRIVER)
Hey!  Hey,  you!

Jason  approaches  the  car  and  open  the  door.  He  finds  the  driver  dead
from  a  self-‐inflicted  gunshot  wound  to  the  head.  Jason  wretches  as  he
sees  the  rotting  corpse.

JASON
Oh,  man.  What  the  -‐

Jason  runs  from  the  car  and  lurches  over  to  throw  up.

JASON
What  happened  here?

As  Jason  composes  himself,  in  the  distance  he  hears  a  voice  calling  out.

SCAGGS  (O.S.)
Get  back,  you  bastards!  Get  back!

OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  CLOSE  UP

Scaggs,  a  grizzled  survivor,  is  holding  a  baseball  bat  and  facing  off  against
three  zombies  moving  slowly  but  closing  in  on  him  from  three  angles.  He
is  terrified  but  willing  to  hold  his  own.  His  escape  route  is  cut  off.

OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  WIDE
Jason  sees  Scaggs  from  across  the  site  and  begins  to  run  to  help  him  out.

JASON
Hey!  Hey!  Leave  him  alone!
CUT  TO:
OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  WIDE
The  zombies  turn  their  heads  to  see  Jason  running  towards  them.  As
soon  as  they  become  distracted,  Scaggs  hits  one  in  the  head  with  the  bat
and  turns  to  smash  the  next  one  to  his  right,  square  in  the  face.  He  pulls
out  his  revolver  and  puts  a  bullet  in  both  of  their  brains,  points  his  gun  at
the  remaining  zombie  and  shoots  him  down.
CUT  TO:
OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  CLOSE  UP
Jason,  running  to  Scaggs,  is  shocked  at  the  gunfire.

OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  CLOSE  UP
Scaggs  looks  at  him,  grim.

JASON
Why  did  you  kill  those  people?

Scaggs  laughs.

SCAGGS
They’re  not  people.  And  they’re  not
alive.

Scaggs  hunches  down  and  points  to  the  face  frozen  in  rigor  mortis.

SCAGGS
See  what  I  mean?

JASON
What  is  going  on  here?

Untitled  Zombie  Movie  (Revised  20-‐Nov-‐10)         3.

SCAGGS
What,  today?  I’m  not  sure.  I  guess  these
boys  haven’t  heard  that  everyone  is
going  up  the  coast  towards  The  Fort.

JASON
No.  Not  that.  I  mean,  why  were  they
coming  after  you?  Where  is  everyone?

SCAGGS
Everyone?

JASON
The  dock  workers,  the  office  folks,
everybody.  What  is  going  on?  Who  are
they?  (points  to  the  zombies)  They  look
like,  like…

SCAGGS
Zombies?

JASON
Well…yeah

SCAGGS
Where  have  you  been  the  last  week  or
so?

JASON
What  do  you  mean?

SCAGGS
Everyone,  every  person  on  this  side  of
the  country  has  either  been  infected,
eaten,  or  running  towards  The  Fort.

JASON
The  Fort?

SCAGGS
The  last  place  we  have  left.  The  hotspot
for  all  the  action.  All  the  people  are
holed  up  and  the  Creeps  followed  them.

OUT.  WAREHOUSES  –  DAY  CLOSE  UP
Scaggs  shoots  the  zombie  again.

SCAGGS
I  guess  not  all  the  Creeps.

JASON
You  mean  to  tell  me  there  was  a  zombie
outbreak…

Scaggs  is  cleaning  out  his  gun,  reloading.

SCAGGS
MmmmHmmm

JASON
And  everyone  is  gone.

SCAGGS
Or  dead.  For  about  two  weeks  now.

JASON
Two  weeks?!?

SCAGGS
Yeah.  Where  have  you  been,  boy?

JASON
I  woke  up  over  there.  The  last  thing  I
remember  was  delivering  a  package  to
an  office  here  and  that’s  it.  I  woke  up  to
one  of  those  things  was  next  to  me,
dead.

SCAGGS
Dead?

JASON
Yeah.  No  blood  or  gunshot  or  nothing.
Just  pale  and  dead.  Like  a  corpse.

SCAGGS  (POINTING  TO  JASON’S  ARM)

What  happened  to  you?
Untitled  Zombie  Movie  (Revised  20-‐Nov-‐10)         5.

JASON
I  don’t  know.  It  was  a  bite  mark  or
something,  but  it  feels  burned.

Scaggs  lifts  up  his  gun  to  Jason.

SCAGGS
When  did  you  get  bit?

JASON
I  don’t  know!

SCAGGS
Who  did  it?  Was  it  that  dead  Creep?

JASON
I  don’t  know!

SCAGGS
Does  your  head  ache?

JASON
No!  I’m  fine.  It  wasn’t  even  bleeding.  It
just  looked  burnt.

Scaggs  calms  down.

SCAGGS
Burnt?

JASON
Yes!  Put  the  gun  down!

SCAGGS
Let  me  feel  your  head.

Scaggs  touches  Jason’s  forehead  with  his  free  hand.  Scaggs  lowers  his
gun.

SCAGGS
No  fever.  Some  confusion.  No  migrane?

JASON
No.
Untitled  Zombie  Movie  (Revised  20-‐Nov-‐10)         6.

SCAGGS
I  don’t  know  how,  but  you  don’t  seem
like  you  are  turning.  Not  yet.  When  do
you  get  here?

JASON
I  was  delivering  my  package  on  the  7th.  I
work  for  Jensen  Pharm.  I’m  an  assistant.

SCAGGS
Well…  you  used  to.  Today  is  the  22nd.

JASON
What?

Jason  stays  quiet  for  a  while,  trying  to  process  the  new  information.

JASON
Why  are  you  here?  Why  didn’t  you  go  to
The  Fort?

SCAGGS
I’m  not  about  to  wait  around  at  a  death
trap.  I  came  here  for  supplies,  maybe  get
lucky  and  sneak  into  town  to  find  ammo.
That’s  why  I  let  them  get  so  close.  You
only  need  one  shot,  and  you  have  to
make  it  count.

JASON
Why  did  you  ask  if  my  head  ached?

SCAGGS
Symptoms  vary,  but  most  people  have  a
fever  and  a  violent  headache  right  after
they  become  infected.  Then  they  die  out
between  12  to  24  hours  of  contact.  After
that  they  turn,  in  48.  Then  it’s  like  the
movies.  Shot  to  the  head  or  outrun  them.

JASON
How  do  you  know?

SCAGGS
I’ve  seen  it.
Untitled  Zombie  Movie  (Revised  20-‐Nov-‐10)         7.

Scaggs  packs  up  his  stuff,  starts  to  walk  away.

JASON
Where  are  you  going?

SCAGGS
Home.

JASON
Where  should  I  go?

SCAGGS
What  difference  does  it  make?

Jason  watches  the  man  walk  away.  He  runs  to  catch  up.

JASON
Wait,  wait.  Have  you  seen  anyone  else?
In  town?

Jason  and  Scaggs  are  both  walking.  Scaggs  is  clearly  annoyed.

SCAGGS
I  told  you.  They  are  either  dead  or  a
Creep.  All  living  people  are  gone.

JASON
My  fiance,  Jenny.  She  has  been  alone  for
two  weeks,  I  need  to  find  her.  Her  house
is  on  the  other  side.

SCAGGS
What  makes  you  think  she’s  still  there?

JASON
I  don’t  know.  I  need  to  find  out  though.

Scaggs  throws  Jason  the  bat.

SCAGGS
Here.  Don’t  make  a  lot  of  noise.  Stay
moving.  Try  to  keep  to  the  outskirts,  in
open  area.  I  have  a  radio  back  home.  If
you  can  find  one,  you  can  get  a  hold  of
me.
Untitled  Zombie  Movie  (Revised  20-‐Nov-‐10)         8.

JASON
Thanks.  By  the  way,  I’m  Jason.  (holds  out
his  hand)  What  is  your  name?

SCAGGS
I’m  the  survivor.  If  you  stay  in  that  town
too  long,  you’ll  be  one  of  them.

Jason  watches  as  Scaggs  walks  away  and  disappears.

than  anyone  else.  More  than  anything.
You  mean  the  world  to  me.

JENNY
Pshhh…  you  are  so  sappy!

JASON  (LAUGHS)
I  know,  I  know.  I  guess  I  will  have  to  just
show  you.

JASON
What  the  hell?  Why,  God?  Why  did  this
happen?  Why  was  I  not  here?  What
happened  to  me?

Jason  looks  to  Jenny.

JASON
I’m  sorry  babe.  I  should  have  been  here.
I’m  so  sorry.
