Pendekatan naratif dalam memudahcara penaakulan moral guru pelatih

Problem statement:

1. Moral education teachers are less knowledgeable and fail to encourage student moral
reasoning.

2. A lack of data describing the experiences of trainee teachers in their teacher preparation
programs on how their moral reasoning evolved.

3. To explore the learning experiences of trainee teachers through a narrative approach to

how their moral reasoning can be facilitated.

Summary of finding:

A seminar that we have attended in completing the assignment for week without wall on
Wednesday, 9 October 2019 is entitled ‘A Narrative Approach to Facilitating the Moral
Reasoning of the Trainee Teacher’. The seminar has been shared by three researcher from UPM
named Norzihani binti Saharuddin, Prof Madya, Dr Suhailah Hussein, Prof Madya, Dr Asmawati
Suhid. Firstly, they stated the background of the new curriculum of Moral Education that is
introduced by Malaysian Education Ministry in 2017. Based on the new curriculum, there is a
nedd to introduce narrative approach in trainee teachers programmes especially for Moral
Educators in Malaysia. An innovative approach of teaching and learning session in the classroom
that consists of multicultural background students.

A narrative approach is said to help in moral reasoning based on method of teaching,

resources of understanding, and diversity sensitivity. Educators need to avoid indoctrination
because as human being, we want to inculcate some values on other people. We tend to think
about our own views when we are alone, therefore we need to apply reason in sharing opinion or
experiences because we cam justify the decision we make. Narrative approach also make us
indirectly deep thinking.

However, there are also challenges that educators need to face such as students
perspective. Maybe there are less affective issues or the classroom environment that is not
conductive. The conductor’s perspective on the difficulty on the assessment also one of the
challenges that moral educators need to overcome.
