BENEFITS OF ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIOS 2

Electronic portfolios serve a great purpose for anyone who is interested in showcasing

their qualifications in a certain field. They provide a convenient venue to share artifacts and work

samples that would demonstrate possession of the knowledge and skills sought by a potential

employer or a customer.

We, as career counselors recommend our students to create an e-portfolio as a part of

their job search campaign to effectively communicate their value to future employers. The

resume they submit along with their applications outlines their academic background and

experiences; however, it is more effective to demonstrate the skills they claim to have then

simply stating the fact. Employers, or clients in the case of a professional who is looking for

contractor work, would appreciate to see the quality of the work prior to hiring the individual’s

services.

We, as the students of the Multimedia Design & Publication course, would benefit from

creating an e-portfolio in two ways: First, share what we learn throughout the program; and

second, demonstrate our skills to communicate using technology and media. The e-portfolio

itself is a media tool and how we design it would give the viewer an idea of our multimedia

design skills.
