4.Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity Present the given quote to the class.
(1 min.) “The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion”.

Question: What is your interpretation of the given quote?

4.2 Activity Group Activity: Pinoy Henyo (Guessing game)


(10 min.)
Directions: The students will be grouped into four. Each group will have one
member to guess the word drawn in the box which will be pasted in their
forehead. Each representative of the group will do the questioning while the
other members of the group should answer yes, no, or maybe. All groups will be
given 2 minutes to get the correct word. If the other members of the group
answer with another word other than YES, NO, or MAYBE, a 3-seconds
penalty shall be given to the team. No body language is allowed. The clock
stops when the representative answes correctly the secret word. There are only 5
categories are being considered to guess the secret word. These are: PERSON,

4.3 Analysis 1. How did you guess the correct word given in each round of the game?
(10 min.) 2. Did the giving of examples help you in guessing the correct word?
3. How did classifying whether it’s a person, thing, place, or food help you in
guessing the word?
4. When writing an essay or paragraph, how do you support the main idea? Do
you give examples or do you classify supporting ideas?
5. What do you think are the patterns of development being used in the activity?

4.4 Abstraction (10min.) Exemplification- is one of the most common and effective ways to show or
explain and idea or point (e.g. observation,opinion,belief). In this pattern of
development, the main idea is explained by giving an extended example or a
series of detailed examples.
Many writing assignments in various discipline required the use of
exemplification. Argumentative and exemplification essays, feature articles,
reviews, reports, and case studies often use examples to prove a point.

Classification- refers to sorting or arranging subjects (e.g. person,places,things,


ideas) into groups or categories according to their common or shared
characteristics. The subjects can be group in many different ways depending on
your purpose. With the purpose in mind, you can determine how to group the
subjects in your list. The group or category should have a single basis of
classification. It is commonly done in various disciplines classifying historical
events by year, popular tv shows, diseases based on mode of transmission,
cleaning products based on manufacturers and animals based on habitats are
some examples of topics in different disciplines.
4.5 Application (10min.) Think – Pair – Share Activity:
Direction: Read the following paragraphs below and answer the questions
provided.

Paragraph 1
Today, men and women of all ages undergo surgery to feel good about
themselves. Three of the most popular surgical procedures are liposuction,
facelifts, and hair transplants. First, liposuction is a quick fix for those who find
good diet and exercise ineffective and time consuming. Next, surgical facelifts
promise men and women a younger and fresher look. Lastly, hair transplants are
now possible, especially for balding men. Thanks to medical advances, men can
now avoid the harsh reality of losing their hair by undergoing a long-lasting hair

transplant procedure.

Paragraph 2

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are composed of the Philippine
Army, the Philippine Air Force, the Philippine Navy, and the Philippine Marine
Corps. The Philippine Army, the main and largest branch, is responsible for
ground warfare. It was established on December 21, 1935, and it has 86,000
active personnel. The Philippine Air Force is the aerial warfare service branch.
It has 15,000 active personnel and a total of 126 aircraft. It has been active since
July 1, 1947. The Philippine Navy is the naval service branch. It was founded
on May 20, 1898 and has a total of 101 ships and 24,000 active personnel. The
Philippine Marine Corps conducts amphibious and expeditionary warfare as
well as special operation missions. It was established on November 2, 1950, and
it has 8,300 active personnel.

4. Using a graphic organizer, differentiate the four classification of the Armed
Forces of the Philippines according to its function, date of establishment, and
number of active personnel.
4.6 Assessment (15 min.) Individual Task:
Write one paragraph for each of the given patterns of development-
exemplification and classification. Choose one topic from the topics listed under
each. The paragraph should have at least five sentences and not more than ten
sentences.

Look for a paragraph that uses exemplification and classification then explain
