A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics II

I. Objective
At the end of the lesson (50 minutes period), the Grade II pupils are expected
to understand and illustrate the property of multiplication that zero multiplied
by any number is zero.M2NS-IIg-40.2
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic
The Zero Property of Multiplication.
B. References
Kto12 Grade 3 Learner’s material in Mathematics
(Pp. 168-170)
C. Materials
Activity Sheets, Lollipop, Marker, Manila paper and Puzzle Card
D. Values Focused
Accuracy

III. Procedures
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Let us all stand for our prayer and let “Our Father”
us pray.

2. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning Teacher

3. Checking Attendance
Who is absent today? None so far.

4. Drill
Each pair of pupils will give this activity
sheet. Let them give the answer as
fast as they can when I start my signal.
Find the sum. Answer:
1. 3 + 0 = 3
2. 7 + 0 = 7
3. 6 + 0 = 6
4. 5 + 0 = 5
5. 8 + 0 = 8

What property of addition is shown in the above It is additive Identity Property, because the
illustration? sum of any number and zero is the original
number.

5. Review
What was our topic/lesson last meeting? Our lesson yesterday was all about the
property of multiplication that any number
multiplied by one (1) is the same number.
Very good!

To check your understanding let us have a short

activity. Each group will be given a manila paper and
marker.

Use repeated addition to illustrate the multiplication Answer:

below.

1. 5x1 5
2. 6x1 6
3. 8x1 8
4. 9x1 9
5. 2x1 2

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
This is the multiplication equation or the name of
their parts.
For example:
4 factor

X 0 factor

= 0 product

Now that you already know the multiplication

equation I have questions and you will answer these
situations.

1. Four empty bags.

Answer:

How many things are there in a bag? 0

2. Five car without passenger

How many passengers are there in each car? 0

3. All the money from the piggy bank was taken.

How much money was left in the piggy bank? 0

4. All the passengers leave the ship.

How many passengers are left in the ship? 0

5. There are six abandoned house.

How many people live in the abandoned house? 0

1. Discussion Answer:
Class, listen and analyze the situation. The teacher
will ask 3 pupils to come in front and extend their
arms on the side with palm on top.
Ask: How many hands do you see? 6 hands

Very Good!

And then the teacher will put two lollipops on each

hands of the student.

Ask: How many lollipops are there in all? 12 lollipops

Very Good!
Answer:

Who among of you would like to write the addition 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 12 or 6 x 2 = 12

or multiplication equation of this?

Very Good!

Now, the teacher will take away all the lollipops

from the hands of the students. Possible answer:

Ask: How many lollipops can you see now? Nothing or Zero

I will show an illustration of 5 baskets with 3 apples

and another illustration of hands without apple.

5 baskets with 3 apples

5 baskets without apple

Now get your notebook and write an equation of

the baskets with apples and the baskets without
apple.

Post the equation on the board as shown:

Answer:
With candies:
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 and 5 x 3 = 15
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 and 5 x 3 = 15
Without candy:
0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 0 and 5 x 0 = 0 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 0 and 5 x 0 = 0

Group Activity

Each pupil will be given a piece of a puzzle and

you have to find your groupmates base on the
puzzle you have, if you find the piece of the puzzle
and completed it, that will be your groupmates.
The piece of the puzzle is consisting an activity
which all about the zero property multiplication;
you will answer it together with your groupmates. Answer:

Puzzle 1.) 5 x 0 = 0

Puzzle 2.) 9 x 0 = 0
Puzzle 3.) 0 x 7 = 0

Puzzle 4.) 3 x 0 = 0

Puzzle 5.) 0 x 10 = 0

What can you notice about the puzzle? The puzzle contains of number.

Does the puzzle show the zero property of Yes.

multiplication?

Which equation represents the zero property of

multiplication?

2+0=2 Answer:

2x1=2 2x0=0

2x0=0

Why? Because any number that is multiplied by zero

is equal to zero.

2. Generalization

What is the Zero Property of Multiplication? Zero property of multiplication states that 0
multiplied by any number is equal to 0.

4. Application

Give the missing numeral. Answer:

1. 7 x =0
0
2. 9 x =0
0
3. 12 x =0
0
4. 15 x =0
0
5. 11 x =0
0
IV. Evaluation

Which of the following represents the zero property of multiplication? Circle the letter
that corresponds to your answer.

1) a.) 2 x 5 b.) 5 + 0 c.) 5 x 0 d.) 2 + 5

2) a.) 6 x 0 b.) 0 + 6 c.) 6 - 2 d.) 6 x 6

3) a.) 3 x 1 b.) 3 + 2 c.)3 + 3 d.) 3 x 0

4) a.) 8 x 2 b.) 8 + 0 c.) 0 x 8 d.) 8 – 0

5) a.) 4 x 0 b.) 4 + 5 c.) 0 + 4 d.) 4 x 4
