CHAPTER 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

The City of Alaminos gets popular because of its very own Hundred Islands.

The number of tourists from different places and countries are growing. But aside

from having Hundred Islands as its attraction, Alaminos City has insufficient

offerings of unique places which can also be a reason for the people to visit the

city.

Now, because we have Hundred Islands and vacation time, people have so

much time to travel and visit other places to relax and have fun. But we only have

few malls and establishments for strolling. And we all know that the more places

to visit, the more people will go in the city.

This is the perfect time to share a new type of business. A business that

will catch people’s attention. New and fresh to the eyes of people, And will match

to the situation. It will help the town to attract people from Alaminos and other

areas. It will satisfy cravings of people and they will encounter new experience as

encouragements to the visitors. Because as they feel the hotness of this city, there

is a place where they can spend time to refresh and eat frozen snacks that is best

to eat in this kind of place and weather.

1
Dessert shop or ice cream shop is not usual kind of shop. You can’t find it

anywhere. You will encounter it in the big cities and places. But Alaminos is a

perfect place to have this kind of business. It fits the taste of people and also to

feel their wants. Not a café, not a restaurant but a newly type of food shop with a

twist in frozen treats.

Swirlsation, an ice cream parlor, will serve a fruity and veggie flavored

cream ice to make it more unique. The combination of dairy ingredients and

nutritious food will be perfect for kids, teens and adult for it is good for the health.

But we will not serve it in cones as a usual ice cream. We will give them rolled ice

cream and fried ice cream paired with churros. This will be a good business

because there is no other soft ice cream parlor in there. Other shops related to ice

cream are a bit far and takes one to three hours to travel before you arrive in

there.

Objectives of the Project/Business

The following are the objectives of Swirlsation:

1. To deliver a quality in a consistent, courteous and timely manner.

2. Achieve more than Php 300,000 in sales during the first year of operation.

3. Increase annual sales in the second year by 40% or more over the initial

year.

4. Be the most popular ice cream shop in entire Pangasinan.

2
Vision

Swirlsation envisions itself to be the leading ice cream parlor particularly in

the City of Alaminos and be able to offer extraordinary experience to its customers.

Mission

In realizing the vision of the business, Swirlsation is committed:

 To deliver a quality product in a consistent, courteous, and timely basis in

order to have the customer return again for another satisfying, delicious

treat; while at the same time earning a reasonable return on the initial

investment

 To provide consistency in both the product and service

 To take care of its employees and will be paid according to their skills and

abilities To be open to all in-store suggestions from customers and test

them for results

 To create a fun, entertaining, and respectful environment

Scope and Delimitation

Ice cream is not just for kids but also for kids at heart. Swirlsation is aiming

for the attention of the kids, teens and oldies. Kids and teens consider ice cream

as their stress reliever. Maybe sweets are not advisable to eat by the old ones but

we made sure that we’ll serve them food that they will enjoy without getting sick.

And because the famous Hundred Islands is here, there will be a lot of visitors

3
coming and we decided to put the business in the town proper near bus terminals

to attract travelers, foreigners, and tourists.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are defined.

Ice Cream – a frozen food containing sweetened and flavored cream.

Ice Cream Parlor – a small restaurant where you can buy ice creams that have

different flavors.

Que helado – Spanish term for ice cream.

Churros – Spanish and Mexican pastry resembling a doughnut or cruller and made

from deep-fried unsweetened dough and sprinkled with sugar.

Rolled and Fried Ice cream – Ways to serve ice cream.

CHAPTER 2

Marketing Aspect

Marketing is a very important aspect in business since it contributes greatly

to the success of the organization. Production and distribution depend largely

on marketing. It is the process of introducing and promoting the product or service

into the market and encourages sales from the buying public. Since the goal of

marketing is to make the product or service widely known and recognized to the

market, marketers must be creative in their marketing activities.

Marketing aspect is one of the most useful chapters in the feasibility study.

Without marketing, sales may crash and companies may have to close. The

success of the business depends on how the product is introduced to the potential

market. The fact that if the proposed product will be accepted by the

target market is then a determining factor that this protect can be implementable.

Product/Service Description

Ice cream is Swirlsation’s main product. We will have different flavors of ice

cream to let customers choose what they want. Fruits and vegetable with cream

and milk are the main ingredients. Some of the flavors are combination of

vegetables, fruits and usual flavors (chocolate, vanilla etc.) but some are separated.

We will be having ice cream that will serve as fried and rolled ice cream. To come

5
up to that kind of product, we have ice cream machine for frying and rolling. It

will be served with churros (plain or flavored).

In addition, for relaxation, our store has “garden-like” atmosphere. The

interior of the store is modern style with table and foamy chairs. It is a “free wifi

zone” for the customers to have Internet access. It can also be a study area for

students.

Comparison of the Product/Service with Competitors

Because this kind of product is new, there are only few business like this

are built and they are far from Alaminos. Compared to Swirlsation’s competitors,

it promotes healthy eating. Flavors are different for a change. Fruits and

vegetables will be added to usual flavors. It is not just a typical ice cream that can

be seen in other stores. People from Alaminos and near areas can visit the shop

instead of traveling for how many hours just to go to other ice cream parlor.

Market Area

Our market area is in the town proper of Alaminos City where Hundred

Islands is found. Our shop is located in front of a bus terminal. So, the people who

will go to other places or travel will go first to our shop to refresh their selves with

our product which is fried and rolled ice cream. We encourage also tourists to go

in our ice cream shop.

children. So we have some strategies to give customers an opportunity to taste

our products that are especially likely to succeed and to patronize more our shop

if they know we are a top-notch ice cream shop.

1. Advertising

We will advertise our business in different places. We will also create banner

in our shop.

2. Fairs and Festivals

Summer festivals are ideal places to market our ice cream, as hungry

festival-goers are eager to try a cold snack. We will give a discount card or business

card to fair customers. If they love our ice cream, they'll remember us as the

MANAGEMENT ASPECT

Management is one of the important aspects in establishing a business. It

is the performance of conceiving and achieving desired results by means of group

effort consisting of utilizing human talents and resources. Therefore, management

is considered as the force that runs an enterprise and is responsible for its success

or failure.

The Management study is responsible for setting directions and for business

planning, administration and control. This chapter is about the form of business

organization and its structure, and the compensation given to employees. A

management study is essential in order to attain goals and objectives of the

business and how it should operate.

FORMS OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATION

A business is an organization or economic system where goods and services

are exchanged for one another or for money. Every business requires some form

of investment and enough customers to whom its output can be sold on a

consistent basis in order to make a profit. Businesses can be privately owned, not-

for-profit or state-owned.

29
It is important that the business owner seriously considers the different

forms of business organization types such as sole proprietorship, partnership, and

corporation.

This business concentrates on a Partnership. These firms are owned and

operated by two or more persons who bind themselves to contribute money,

property, or industry to a common fund, with the intention of dividing the profits

among themselves. Each partner is personally liable for any debt incurred by the

partnership.

JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL MANAGER

General Managers are in charge of the operations for a large areas within

a company. They often oversee local managers and their employees, as well as a

local office of employees. They set policies, operations, create and maintain

budgets, and coordinate with local management in the company to evaluate

employees, company performance and efficiencies.

 Education Requirements

Most general managers will have at least a bachelor's degree in

business management or a related field, with many electing to get a master's

degree. In addition, many managers work their way up after many years of

lower-level managerial positions.

 Job Skills and Requirements

a. Leadership Skills: You will have to keep your employees motivated,

resolve conflicts and make hard decisions for your employees.

b. Time Management: You will be working with employees, customers

and management. Time management is essential to make sure

everything gets done.

32
c. Math and Budgeting: General Managers are expected to create, keep

and maintain a budget, as well as make projections based on previous

expenditures. You will need to be confident in using math skills to make

sure you know where your company's money is going.

d. Analytical Skills: You will be in charge of overseeing the hiring of new

employees, and being a good judge of character will help ensure that

you hire the right people to maintain an efficient and motivated team.

You will also need analytical skills to be able to solve problems that may

come up during a typical work day.

e. Decision-Making Skills: The buck stops with you. Whether it is

dealing with employees, customers, top executives or vendors, you will

have to make decisions that affect the company. Having the ability to

make hard and fast decisions is crucial to your success.

f. Speaking and Writing: General Managers do a lot of communicating.

This might be in negotiations with contractors, in front of a group of

employees, or in a meeting with other management. You might be called

upon to write reports and recommendations. Great verbal

communications and writing skills will help you in any of these scenarios.

ASSISTANT MANAGER

Assistant managers have a lot of responsibility, and this job requires great

leadership skills. Whether you’re managing a group of sales people in retail or

33
dishing out orders to servers in a restaurant, you'll need to keep a level head, be

able to multitask and have excellent people skills.

 Assistant Manager Job skills

The good news is that your training will teach you everything you need

to know to succeed on the job. But here are a few skills you should have from

the get-go:

a. Leadership: You will have several people you need to supervise in addition

to handling general complaints, last-minute schedule changes, kitchen mess-

ups and inventory problems. Assistant managers are leaders and should

represent their company and themselves well by acting as a role model to the

people reporting to them.

b. Organization: There will be a million and one things going on as an assistant

manager and everyone will assume that you have it all worked out for them.

You should be able to stay focused during busy times and delegate tasks to

employees to keep business running smoothly.

into their jobs. You should be a good teacher who tries to help employees who

are having difficulty picking up new skills.

manner.

the people around you and do your own thing. Your job is to be attentive to

your employees by motivating them to succeed and improve. Even if business

is slow, keep your staff in high spirits and be as helpful as possible to

customers and clients.

 Job myth

“Assistant managers just shout orders at the employees they

manage.”

While this job does require you to take control and delegate

responsibilities to other workers, assistant managers get their hands just as

dirty as their employees. One of the main requirements for this position is

people skills, and ordering people around like servants doesn't fit the bill.

You'll be so busy dealing with customers, answering phones, filing

while telling other people what to do.
