POLLUTION OF

PRAGATHI NAGAR
LAKE
EUTROPHICATION

● The lake’s surface is covered by most

problematic aquatic weed water
hyacinth.
● With the potential to double in biomass
in a matter of days and the ability to
migrate easily because of its
free‐floating vegetative form, it can
successfully colonize new habitats, and
displace native vegetation.
● In addition to thick layers of
hyacinth on the surface, these
water bodies are also rich in toxic
chemical components and
bacterial content, namely faecal
coliform, which is bacteria found in
human and animal faeces.
● Snakes, unbearable stench and
mosquito menace have been an
everyday ordeal for the local
residents to deal with. The regular
inflow of untreated sewage water
into Pragathi Nagar Lake is the
major concern to them.
Mosquito dwelling in lake

● Water plants are increased in lake due to

which people living near lake suffering

mosquitos continously coming a the

but it should be clear in such way water
plants will not come up again People

from protecting from several dangerous
health issues like - Malaria,Dangue.
SOLUTIONS
● Methods to manage water hyacinth are available, which include physical, chemical,
and biological forms of control. However, for the long‐term sustainability of systems,
including the control of water hyacinth, only improved land, air, and watershed
management can provide the solution to reducing eutrophication and the potential of
water hyacinth outbreaks.

● Fishes that feed on mosquito larvae should be introduced into the lake.

● Kerosene or mosquito killing chemicals should be sprayed onto the lake with least
environmental effect and the lake should be regularly cleaned and maintained.
