Water contains very little or no salt. The

water is also moving and not stagnant, as
a pond’s would be.

Extremely important source of drinking

water.

Algae and plants are the primary

producers.
Running water can maintain a higher
oxygen concentration than standing
water, so more life can be sustained.
However, the movement of the liquid is a
challenge for many organisms.
Combined with still freshwater habitats,
this biome fosters over 100,000 species
of flora and fauna.
