Question No 1. Explain what is organizational Behaviour and state why it is
importance to study organizational Behaviour?

Answer: As per the basic definition by Raman J. Aldag : Organizational behavior is


a branch of the Social Sciences that is used to build theories that can be applied to
predicting, understanding and controlling behavior in the organizations.

Have we ever realized why do people behave a certain way in an


organizational environment. What factors affect job performance, employee
interaction, job commitment, leadership and management ?

Organizational Behavior deals with the study of human behavior within the
organization. It deals with the individual or group behavior in organizations, external
environment of organization and the organization itself and determines its impact on
the job structure, performance, communication and leadership.

The main objective of Organizational Behavior is to understand the human


interactions in an organization, find what is driving it and influence it for getting
better results in attaining business goals. Organization behavior’s objective is to set
up an organizational culture, hiring best people and creating meaningful connections
among them, resolving the conflicts, developing the qualities of the employees and
establish firm.
Lets us understand the Organizational behavior by taking note of few objectives that
are very important for any Organization –

1 .Job Satisfaction:- Job Satisfaction is all about an individual’s feelings about the
work, work environment, pay, organization culture and job security.

2. Finding the right people:- Any Organization which has to achieve its objective and
has to achieve right growth needs to have right kind of people for the right job.
Organizational behavior can be helpful for finding the right mix of talents and
working styles required for achievement of the task at hand.

3. Organizational Culture:- As organizations grow larger, it may become difficult to


keep a sense of common purpose and unity of direction.

4. Leadership and Conflict resolution:- Organizational behavior can assist in


fostering leadership, pro-activity and creative problem-solving ideas.
5. Understanding the Employees Better:- Organizational behavior studies help us
understand why employees behave the way they do, and also thereby predict how
they are going to behave in the future.

6.Understand how to Develop Good Leaders:- Organizational behavior patterns help


in predicting who among the employees have the potential to become leaders.

7.Develop a efficient Team:- It is essential that all members of the team work in
coordination and are motivated to work together to achieve the best results.
The teamwork theories of organizational behavior are an essential tool in the hands
of any manager.

8. High Productivity:- The most important goal of achieving the highest productivity
in realizing the visions and goals of any organization. The organizational behavior
principles help in motivating all the members to do their best.

It can be described as study and application of knowledge about how individuals and
group who work within the organizations.

Over the time the person is affected by his work experience and the organization as
well as his personal experiences and maturity. On the other hand, the organization is
also affected by the presence or absence of that person as an individual or
manpower is more important than technology or machines.

Why it is important to study Organizational Behavior

In our competitive, challenging and constantly changing world, organizations must


be both efficient and effective in their field. To do this, organizations must have
skilled employees that know how to work together to achieve the goals. As a result,
it is important to understand how to build and maintain a competent and
cooperative work force.

1. The most important resource for an organization are their employees.


Human resource matters more than money and machines.

2. Humans are not robots which when programmed would work continuously
without any deviation. Organization need interests of employees to align with
and get the work done.
3. In organizational behavior we should study how to channelize teams from
various backgrounds like sales, marketing, advertising, technology etc. to work
in together and enhance the organization's revenue and capitalization.

4. Organizational behavior helps to understand the group and cooperative


processes in a organization which results in getting the maximum output from
an individual. Any capitalist organization would want to yield the maximum from
it's human resource so as to maximize it's revenue. The lucrative paychecks,
perks offered by organizations to deserving employees is a means to retain them
and extract the most of them to achieve organization goals.

5. Organizational Behavior is mainly for the managers. There are some


responsibilities given to managers to achieve organizational goal by getting the
work done by people under him/her. Since everyone needs a bit of taming to
work, this is where OB comes in picture.

Conclusion:
By studying organizational behavior, both employees and managers come to know
what makes people behave the way they do. Employees can use this knowledge to
increase their own job satisfaction and improve work performance. Managers can
use organizational behavior to accomplish goals and help employees achieve optimal
performance. More importantly, learning about organizational behavior will help you
to understand your own behaviors, attitudes, ethical views, and performance, as
well as those of the people with whom you'll be working.

Question No 2. What are the various challenges faced by H R Managers in


managing employees in today’s Industrial organization.

Answer: H R Manager includes conducting job analyses, planning personnel needs,


recruiting the right people for the job, orienting and training, managing wages and
salaries, providing benefits and incentives, evaluating performance, resolving
disputes, and communicating with all employees at all levels. Examples of core
qualities of HR management are extensive knowledge of the industry, leadership,
and effective negotiation skills, formerly called personnel management.
They are the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment of,
management of, and providing direction for the people who work in the organization.
It can also be described as the organizational function that deals with issues related
to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization
development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication,
administration, and training.

1. Retaining your best talent


Old days are gone where recruiting good talent was enough, retaining that good
talent is also very important. Especially those employees who possess greater
professional and technical knowledge are much in demand in the job market as such
employees have the ability to keep their company ahead in the race. Such
employees are invaluable assets for any company.
2.Ensuring better employee productivity to maximise your profits
Maximizing profit and minimizing cost is the major goal of every business. Higher the
productivity level, more successful you will be. So ensuring that productivity levels of
your employees are always high should be your top priority. However despite
continuous effort, you might sometimes get unsatisfactory results. In such case, you
should thoroughly analyze the situations and make proper conclusions whether it is
the result of inefficient employee or insufficient resources.
In case it is due to inefficient employee, training the employee, or even recruiting
new staff could be a solution or finding alternative resources for sufficient input if
inadequate resources are the case.
3.Managing a diverse workforce
Composition of workforce is getting diverse at present situation. Diversity is not only
created by age, gender, educational background and religion but also by the nature,
personality and background of workers. However, with a more diverse workforce,
some usual issues such as harassment or discrimination may arise. To control such
instances, a company must formulate and implement strict rules and regulations and
also conduct several seminars to spread awareness.

4. Globalization
We live in a global world today. In fact, mergers, collaborations, takeovers are a
common phenomenon. While merging of firms is obviously a sign of success, it is
also a challenge as with globalization, you also have to deal with several challenges
related to different languages, work culture, management approach, culture and
tradition. Being a manager you should have to very precised in terms of leaves,
meetings and holidays scheduling.

5. Resistance to change
This is a common fear which occurs in the mind of many employees. Especially the
ones who consider change to be a threat and think that their roles within the
company will be replaced by a machine or computer that can do the job cheaper or
faster.
As with any change in the workplace, changes in technology could cause anxiety
or even resistance among your employees. The role of the human resource manager
would be to develop strategies to combat this resistance to change which begins by
assuring employees of their worth for the business. They must be able to
perceive the technology as an boon and not an obstacle to their work.
6. Maintaining privacy and managing vital business information

As the technology within an organization advances, so do the privacy and security


concerns connected with those technical changes. Ensuring that your employees are
well trained in securing data and hence preventing privacy breaches Providing
employee training on how to secure data and preventing any breach of privacy thus
ensuring the safety of sensitive business information is a key challenge for human
resources. Communicating with technology vendors and keeping up-to-date with the
technical aspects of the company are some more ways for human resources
managers to recognize and confront this challenge. This also include the salary
discussion, as the salary differs employees to employees and if it gets discussed then
that will be considered as a serious offence and necessary measures should be
taken.

7. Maintaining discipline and achieving business goals


Discipline is one of the key issues, lack of which can cause various problems
impacting the productivity of the company. For instance, if discipline is not
maintained, employees may neglect their tasks and duties or even procrastinate
their tasks and misbehave with co-workers. The ultimate result of these activities is
decreased productivity of your company.
You need to make your policies clear and inform every employee about your
disciplinary procedures as well as let them know who they can appeal to. You must
follow different processes depending on the severity of the employee’s actions.
There is a need to acertaindiscipline is due to employee performance issue or if it
is misconduct.

8. Adapt new technology or get extinct.


Any company must consider technological changes as the present day
world demands every firm to move with the change, or else be left
behind .Technological changes influence the overall nature of work and businesses
need to find employees that are able to adjust with the change.
During this process, unemployment as well as employment opportunities arise,
creating new challenges for HR manager. With new developments in technology as
well as with the use of new tools will be helpful to increase flexibility and
productivity.

9. Leadership Development and Planning


Leadership development is one of the biggest challenges for human resource
management. It needs to be a critical strategic initiative. HR professionals are
expected to provide the essential processes and tools to select the best and develop
the future leaders of the organization.
These initiatives can also be successfully conducted with the use of a scientific
