INT.

THERAPY ROOM - DAY

CHARLES sits up straight on a chair in a therapy room. We see

him fidgeting with his hands nervously.

THERAPIST
Was there, maybe something on your
mind?

CHARLES
My cat died.

THERAPIST
I'm sorry, Charles. You wanna talk
about it?

CHARLES
She got cancer. I think I got cancer
too.

THERAPIST
How do you know?

CHARLES
I don't know.

THERAPIST
Well, have you been tested?

CHARLES
Yeah. I think.

There's an uncomfortably long pause, the sound of a pot of

water filling a bathtub can be heard in the background.

INT. CHARLES' HOME - NIGHT

We see Charles opening his eyes, sitting in his bath. There's

a ring from the front door. He puts on a robe and opens his
front door. WIDOWIST, a formal looking old man, is seen
standing at the door.

WIDOWIST
I hate to interrupt you, but I was
wondering if you know of Solomon
Flick? He was a philanthropist of ours
who has gone missing.

Widowist hands Charles a missing sheet. The drawing of the

philanthropist is just a crude sketch.

Well, I'll keep an eye for ya.

WIDOWIST

Charles shuts the door and closely looks at the paper.

Charles opens the door and catches the widowist walking away.

CHARLES
Hey, uh.

The Widowist turns to face Charles.

CHARLES
The guy you're looking for's dead.

WIDOWIST
What?

CHARLES
The guy, the philanthropist, he's
dead.

Long beat. Widowist is shocked.

WIDOWIST
Really?

WIDOWIST
Cancer?

CHARLES
Yeah, cancer. I think I got cancer
too.

Charles is seen playing with his fingers, uncomfortably.

the staring up at the ceiling from his tub. His whole arm is
covered with names of what looks like every disease known to
man. Charles hears a knock at the door. He puts on a robe and
opens his front door.

WIDOWIST

(OUTSIDE SHOT) Charles closes the door and opens it, catching
the Widowist walking away.

Sir!

The Widowist turns to face Charles.

WIDOWIST
Excuse me?

Charles shuts and locks the door, leaving the Widowist

banging on the door. Charles turns up the volume of his
record player and walks down to his basement, flicking on the
room light. The shot stays from the outside of the basement
but the sounds can be heard. Charles picks up a power drill
and turns it on. The muffled screams of Solomon Flick can be
heard in the basement. The screams from the basement and the
knocking at the front door stop, simultaneously. You can hear
Charles putting down the power drill and walking back up the
basement, turning off the light behind him. Charles lays back
in the tub, at peace. His hand is completely clean.
