Assessment for Speaking and Listening

Resources that exist without actions of humans are known as NATURAL RESOURCES.

Some common examples of natural resources are water, sunlight, atmosphere, land, forests, coal,
petroleum…… the list is endless. I am not exaggerating, but they play the most important role in our
lives. Like, we can survive without a smart phone, without electricity (our ancestors did) but we can’t
survive without food and water. Natural resources are our basic need. They can mainly be classified
as:

1. Renewable, and 2. Non-Renewable natural resources.

We have been using them for years. Renewable resources renew after a certain period of time, but
non renewable resources don’t. Once they are exhausted, they take millions of years to replenish.

In recent years, the depletion of natural resources has become a major issue for the governments
and activists globally. The cars we use, most of them run on gasoline or diesel which are a derivative
of petroleum, the coal we burn in thermal power plants, ground water……..all of them are depleting
at a tremendous rate. It should be a matter of concern for all of us.

So what is the solution to this………………Sustainable development

It means fulfilling our needs in such a way that the future generations wouldn’t need to compromise
with their needs. Natural resources can only be saved if all the countries and their people unite and
follow the path of sustainable development. Because if nature has given us something, it is our
sole duty to not misuse it
