Ethical Dilemma (Case #1):
Sarah Kovacs supervising team of HRM department and new member in the team named Kim
Evans who possess excellent skills and abilities but also have negative behavior and attitude
impacting the team spirit and motivation. For the new job in marketing department Sarah have to
take decision as either to refer Kim for the job or to avoid referring him because of his bad attitude.

Q 1: Evaluate Sarah’s Options?

On the basis of the theory there are two main options that Sarah can use as;

 Face track Kim for the interview in the marketing department and regain the cohesion and
high motivation of the department as Kim show negative attitude that negatively impact
the cohesion of the HR department
 Do not fast track the Kim for the interview in the marketing department and miss the option
of the restoring cohesion of the HR department as in case Kim show negative attitude and
energy in marketing department then again the blame will be on Sarah for fast tracking
Kim for the interview.

Q 2: What should Sarah do?

Sarah should fast track Kim for the interview in the marketing department as currently in HR
department Kim fail to show positive behavior instead of all efforts (Roger, 2017). But there is a
chance that Kim will change her attitude while dealing with customers. On the other hand Kim’s
working at HR department will lead to long term negative consequences in accordance to
utilitarianism theory and in order to avoid this Sarah have to take first option in consideration.
Ethical dilemma (Case #2):
Melissa and Brian initiate an online company named Disco Global and the company get huge
success in limited time period. The company take decision to expand to the Asian markets but for
entering the Chinese markets they have to develop strategic plan that is not aligned with vision,
mission and goals of company.

Q 1: Evaluate Melissa and Brian options?

Brian and Melissa have to take decision regarding the values Vs strategy. From the consequential
theory basis in case they choose to capitalize on the Asian markets they risk the tarnishing of the
stated goals and values for the company and it will also influence the relationship of the company
with the current customers. The second option is to choose to stand by their stated values and
neglect expanding to the Asian markets. The second option will lead to losing appealing financial
opportunity for the company. These two options are available for the Melissa and Brian that have
different risks and opportunities.

Q 2: What should Melissa and Brian do?

After analyzing their options from the rule based perspective the decision of company that in case
Disco Global do not bring internet and technology services to china then someone else will is cut
and dry. The company focus on promoting the freedom to get knowledge although they do not
promise a freedom to get the knowledge without considering the results. From this opinion their
options are to offer the similar services for china as any other market. The reality that they are
agree to follow the government rules and regulations does not look to infringe on the integrity of
the goods and services rendered.

Q 1: Evaluate options for Dan?

On the basis of consequential theory the situation is complex for the Dan and the options available
for him are as follow;

 To move Keyle to other position in other team and let the team leader to handle the situation
of poor communicating habits of the team
 To avoid moving Keyle to other position in other team and making Keyle the part of the
current team but it can increase the frustration and problems for the Dan in the current
scenario.

These two options are available for the Dan in the current time.

Q 2: What should Dan do?

Dan should not consider the option of moving Keyle to other team as it will make the situation
worse and blame will be on Dan who refer Keyle for the new position. So, Dan should focus on

focus on instructing through audio-visual communication style to raise the level of understanding.

Q 1: Evaluate options for Bill?

On the basis of character theory the major options available for the Jim are as follow;

 Jim can take the UT of bill on natural ground and make him comfortable to open up to
share the reasons of his changed behavior and give him time to cope with the current bad
situations and to come to routine.
 Jim can give two direct warnings for the change in the behavior and then can directly fire
the Bill so that to avoid impacting negatively the performance of the team.
 Jim can directly contact the boss and take decision to fire Bill.

Q 2: What should Bill do?

Jim should consider the option of dealing Bill on natural ground by viewing the past experience
of the Bill with high performance from the last fifteen years. Jim should take him to confidence
and make him comfortable to share the causes of his changed behavior that can be the disturbance

 He could move with the plan and adding fake information in documents but this can
damage his health and leads to inner dissatisfaction
 He could walk away from the current job but it can impact the job satisfaction and
commitment
 He could approach the boss and tell the whole story but it can increases the risk for job
security for him as boss himself ask him to add false or fake information in the documents
so he may fire him from the job

Q 2: what should Neil do?

Neil should consider it a crime and on the basis of rule based theory Neil should stop doing this
thing of fake information in the document (Shakina, 2018). He should quit job and report his boss.
The situation is presenting strong character based challenges and it may give temporary depression
to the Neil but he will get inner satisfaction that will impact positively to his mental and physical
health. Neil should give all proof to the concerned authorities so that to take action against the boss
