Event classification
The following chapters show the different levels of possible events. The tables contain a
code (preliminary, may be changed) and a possible text for the message on the display for
each level. The event code “00” indicates that no inhibit or special drive status is active.
Notifications
Notifications indicate events without influence on the truck operation, some should be
reported to the service personnel for corrective action.
Note: Battery buffered data might be lost, if the battery will not be replaced in time.
Note: All functions relying on commands coming from the serial link are not available.
Warnings
Warnings indicate events without immediate influence on truck operation, but service is
required soon. Component failures will cause a warning, if there’s no immediate effect
on truck operation. As the failure may influence the truck operation, if it is present for a
longer time, service is required as soon as possible
The inverter resumes operation after 2 s automatically, if no failure is present any more.
The field regulator and the inverter resume operation after 10...15 s automatically, if no
failure is present any more.

Introduction
Digital potentiometer
The digital potentiometer on module G011 has to be set to "7". Any other setting is not
allowed for normal service without explicit permission from SIEMENS.
The digital potentiometer on module G035 is not used on this project. The setting is not
relevant.
Exchange of TCU modules and components
If it is necessary to replace any of the TCU modules the following rules have to be
observed:
### Modules may be withdrawn or inserted only when they are de-energized, i.e.
the control unit must be switched off and the front plug connector of the relevant module
must be removed.
### Modules with adjustable hardware elements ("variant modules", e.g. with
resistors), must be replaced by identically adjusted modules. If the new module is ordered
with the complete ordering designation the adjustable elements are correctly set.
TCU module settings
All variable complements and settings on the modules of the TCU are specified in the
corresponding TCU hardware adjustment instructions.
Resistors: All resistors are of type E0207 (0.28W, 85°C), tolerance 0.1%, unless
otherwise specified.
Fault finding
Most of the analog signals used by the traction control unit can be measured via a
transient recorder
(6FH 9388). For this purpose the transient recorder, must be installed in slots G003 &
G043. The analog signals are now decoupled and available on front connector X3 for
measuring purposes.
The M bus bar on the terminal strip is employed as the measuring reference point for
external signals. For internal signals (e.g. TTL level) the common M strip conductor is
employed as a reference point, e.g. the M socket, or the pins b2 / b32 at the back plane
plug connector of the corresponding module. In the case of the MC modules (modules
with direct connection to the computer bus via the bus module) only the input and the
output signals (which are all decoupled) may be measured in addition to the signals at the
measuring sockets provided for this purpose.
Internal signals, which are not decoupled, may not be measured on account of the
danger of interference.
The generally applicable ESD rules should be observed for all measurements (refer
to Hardware documentation).
A frequently cause of drive faults are faults of the measured values. The following table
shows which TCU cards evaluate which measured values and the corresponding signal
names in the TCU software.

Diagnosis
The SIBAS32 diagnosis system stores all events, which are important for the evaluation
of the TCU process data. Therefore not every stored event means that a fault or a wrong
process status occurred.
Some events are only stored for commissioning or additional maintenance information.
The reasons for faults which restrict or prevent the traction system from fully operation
are mostly to be found outside of the TCU. Most of the time, by simply replacing the
appropriate TCU printed circuit board it is possible to locate, if the fault is within the
TCU or outside.
The diagnosis system stores always the current process data for every event
The following subsections show a list of all possible events stored in the diagnosis
memory and a description for each of these codes:

event code and diagnosis message 1470 IUW: GROUND FAULT DETECTED
1) Activate the “drive shutdown” switch or select the mode using User-commands
Reset the inhibit by the reset-button or in User-commands . Watch bus-voltage and
ground voltage, check the diagnosis memory. If the bus-voltage comes up again, the
ratio of ground and bus voltage is correct and the ground fault detection does not
occur again, the ground fault is not on the alternator/rectifier side of the DC-link
contactor K104. If the ground fault detection occurs again, the fault must be on the
alternator/rectifier side.
2) If the ground fault is not on the alternator/rectifier side of K104, turn off the “drive
shutdown” switch. Watch the bus-voltage and the ground voltage and check the
diagnosis memory. If the bus-voltage comes up again, the ratio of ground and bus
voltage is correct and the ground fault does not occur again as long as the inverter
are not operating (truck at standstill, shift lever in “NEUTRAL”), the ground fault
must be on the inverter output side (e.g. motors).
3) Evaluate the filtered values for ground voltage and bus voltage stored in the
diagnosis memory for the ground fault detection:
• ground voltage = 0 V indicates a ground fault on the positive DC-bus
• ground voltage = bus voltage indicates a ground fault on the negative DC-bus
• ground voltage = ½ bus voltage indicates a ground fault on the alternator/rectifier
side or on the inverter/motor side
The I2-t supervision of the DC-link current prevents the alternator from sustained
overloading. The “I2-integral” is calculated as shown in the functional block diagram:
IDC
I2-integral
+1
sign
IDCN 100 % -1
T = 98 s
The “I2-integral” is supervised and resulting in the “alternator over current warning”
(Code 1517) and the “alternator over current protection” (Code 1518).
