19. The question about what “ageing” is can be answered simply by saying that it is the
process of growing old. It refers to the point in life when individual cells stop dividing.
As you grow in years, your wisdom and knowledge may increase, but you also begin to
see decline in psychological and physical attributes, as the brain and the body slow in
pace. For the elderly, reacting late, moving slowly, and misunderstanding what people
say to them is quite common. As old age makes the body weak, it becomes more prone
to diseases, and research indicates that at least two-thirds of deaths every year are direct
results of ageing.

20. Lifestyle plays a significant role in the speed of one’s ageing process. A controlled
diet may slow the aging process, and may help to maintain overall wellness. Fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains are beneficial for enhancing your life and overall wellness.
On the contrary, an undisciplined lifestyle may cost you precious years. Excessive fat,
salt, and sugar consumption may shave years off your life, as these are directly
connected to health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and other life-threatening
illnesses.

21.Though heart disease may be caused, in part, by one’s dietary habits, it’s also
contributed to by the work of 100 different genes, something outside of your control.
Despite there being no solution to the genetic factors, there are options to help protect
yourself against their effects, as was previously mentioned. Longevity is a hereditary
aspect, so having long-living relatives can point to higher chances of your own
longevity. There is a common belief that genes play a large role in how quickly one
grows. Besides having the right genes, other factors can increase your life expectancy as
well.
22. Despite these findings, however, there’s no question as to whether or not premature
ageing and disease can be prevented by lifestyle choices; the answer is an emphatic yes.
Other means of protection include giving up smoking, and engaging in some amount of
regular physical activity. Smoking is a dangerous habit, as it can damage your lungs and
respiratory system, and lead to various types of cancer. If you wish to delay age-related
death, you must prioritize regular exercise; there is no alternative. Keeping an active
mind by, for example, solving puzzles or trying to figure out new and unfamiliar tasks,
like how to use Facebook or Twitter, is also recommended in maintaining one’s overall
health.

23. Europeans are now living longer than they used to even a decade ago. Through
thorough research into the causes of deaths, the governments of various European
nations have been able to come up with solutions to prevent death from age-related
disease. As of now, even if people are suffering from a certain disease, it’s become less
likely that they die from it. The average life expectancy of a European male is 79 years,
while that of a female is 84 years.

24. Some of the reasons behind the rise in life expectancy in Europe include
vaccination, health sanitation, and public health measures. Apart from these factors,
one’s socio-economic status is indisputably one of the most vital influences on the
wellbeing and health of an individual. Even though life expectancy is on the rise in
different parts of Europe, there is a stark contrast between the average age of death of
the well-off and those who struggle financially.

25. It has been proven that, in developed countries, the rich tend to have healthier eating
and drinking habits than the average citizen. Meanwhile, those with incomes at or below
the poverty line have been shown less able to change their eating habits for the better.
An individual with a better income has access to more choices regarding diet, and
having these options at their disposal allows them to select healthier options, regardless
of the cost. On the other hand, for an individual living on the streets, without stable
living conditions or a fixed income, smoking a cigarette or eating fast food, though
costly to both their health and budget, may be the only thing that can get them through
the day.
