The First Amendment states that: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of

religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the
press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a
redress of grievances.” I abide by this amendment by respecting everyone’s views whether I
agree with them or not. I express how I feel on important matters through public outlets as well
as private. As a journalism student, I write papers, articles and case studies using my freedom of
speech on important topics. I will use it in my career by voicing my opinion and peacefully
assembling with my peers on matters that effect the community and the world. This amendment
allows me to be able to say, practice and believe in what I want without penalty.
