 The mammy stereotype stemmed from slavery. She was a black women, dark
skinned with large breast. Big lips, and normally had a handkerchief or slave
clothing. She was depicted as a happy, loyal servant to the white family.
 The mammy character was used on a lot of racist propaganda and still is today.

 Big companies such as Prada, Dolce and Gabanna, Gucci and H&M have been
known to use black face and Mammy figures in their clothing.
 A lot of rappers and important figures in the media have chosen to boycott these
brands.
 The mammy character is in many movies and sitcoms.
 It normally shows a heavyset black woman taking care of a family.
