Introduction

Our assignment this week was to locate a list of the 100 best companies to work for and

to select one as a team. The company that we chose was Facebook, and as a team we will be

doing an analysis of this company and its climate regarding organizational behavior. We will

also be discussing if this organization encourages positive organizational behavior and if they do

then how do they demonstrate them. But if not then what type of organizational behavior does

this company seem to demonstrate. After this summary, you will have a better understanding of

Facebook and its organizational behavior. We will also have a few examples that will give you a

better understanding.

Does Facebook Encourage Positive Organizational Behavior

Facebook organizational behavior structure has a very effective positive way of

branching off teams with employees who has strengths that creates a positive winning attitude

that blends people together from diverse backgrounds. These teams work together with one goal

in mind along with a competitive mind frame to get the job done right. This company maintains a

tough and competitive drive through the using culture and traditions of staying young and

adapting to all that technology has to offer in the social media world. Facebook consistently

promotes being innovative and creative along with setting the bar in the social media market as it

has gone global and built a great organizational culture that has the employees to be stiff

competition. Facebook offers numerous trainings in all aspects of the company’s day to day

operations along with putting all employees in positions to use their strengths towards the

company’s goals. (Jessica Lombardo, June 27, 2016) Facebook has 5 characteristics that are

most noticeable in the organization culture: rewards creative problem solving and decision

making. This gives the employees the free range to be creative without being judged which
builds a creative positive environment to be productive. The next characteristic is boldness which

helps maximize the company flexibility to let the employees strengths shine because of being put

in the right position to help the team which helps the company keep that competitive edge. The

next of the 5 characteristics is openness which gives the employees the right to have a voice and

be able to use it effectively to make changes that will always put the teams and the company in a

good position to improve. The last two characteristics speed and continuous improvement which

both go hand and hand. Speed is to be able to respond quickly to trends that can affect the social

media market and be able to adapt and make fast decisions. Continuous improvement which is

the last of the 5 characteristics and this is the effort that is agreed upon taking a job for this

company and all employees takes this serious because of the competitiveness that’s in this line of

work and what is expected. According to Tao & Wilson (2015), Facebook is an organization that

cares about employees and user information and its strategy focusses on the promise of being a

socially conscious citizen and socially responsible (p. 210) which creates conscious capitalism in

the organization. This is why Facebook has become the social media of choice among most

Americans.

How Facebook Encourages Positive Organizational Behavior

Facebook encourages positive organizational behavior by helping their employees to take

risk without worrying about adversaries. This is demonstrated through their most notable

characteristics which are rewarding creative problem solving and decision-making, boldness,

openness, speed and continuous improvement (Lambardo, 2016). These organizational attributes

encourage employees to do more and work together in harmony. Their office is set up without

cubicles and everyone that works there shares the same workspace including the CEO.

(Majumder, 2015). The freedom of working side by side with the CEO creates positive
organizational behavior because everyone feels that they are on the same level which makes

workflow smoothly which at the same time encourage positive deviance in the organization and

therefore the huge success. Organizational behavior is also positive because of the flexibility to

work from home and non-traditional 9 to 5 workday. Employees are rewarded through

recognition, incentives and other things that motivate workers to be more creative in contributing

to the business; this pushes the employees to strive for improvement. With the free flow of

communication and openness of the workforce, the work atmosphere is joyful, and the employees

are intrinsically motivated because they feel their organization cares about them as a person; this

amongst many other things encourages workers to work harder just because they enjoy their job

and the people they work with. Minimizing restrictions on employees’ activities and supporting

employees’ intrinsic and extrinsic needs always leads to positive Organizational Behavior.

Conclusion

By looking at the organizational behavior of the management of companies such as

Facebook we can see the ways that a company can be ran well, that all the employees are happy

and productive. Certain measures can be taken within the work space of any company that allow

for the employees to feel as though they are more of an asset to the company which allows them

to feel more pride in their work that they preform which overall makes for a better company. In

the workspace it can either be divided and employees can feel less important and invisible in

many ways or you can work at a company such as Facebook and feel as part of the team all of the

time and most importantly be recognized as an important employee.
