Intel GL40 CPU compatibility list

Important: Below is a support list for the GL40 Express chipset, and not a support list for your motherboard, built
on that chipset. The chipset is only one of key elements that determine CPU compatibility. Other key factors are:
socket type, package type, maximum Thermal Design Power, BIOS version, CPU core name and stepping. For
that reason not all motherboards, built on the chipset, will be compatible with all listed processors. Please use
the list only as a guidance.

T7250 works too

Posted by: pckraddler 2011-03-12 05:13:31

My Acer Extensa 5235 does have this GL40 Chipset (according to Everest System Analysis-Tool) an I successfully upgraded from a Mobil Celeron M 575 to a Core2Duo
Mobile T7250

Therefore I assume all CPUs with similar features (Merom-core in 0,065 micrometer) as the T7250 will work in Mainboards with this Chipset

Ok, i've mounted in my Acer Aspire 5735Z an used intel T8300 (that comes from a Sony Vaio) and works very well. I've increased the PC speed with only 30$. The
mean value of CPU temperature is decreased about 10°C, the Samsung SSD drive 840EVO - 500 Gb works better with this upgrade. Recommended!

Will this cpu work? T7500 (4M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB), extracted from an HP DV6755el...

Posted by: U-StaSS 2012-05-29 05:25:41

It works fine. I have ASUS K40IJ, previous procesor was Celeron M 900.
Also work fine T7300 and T7700, T7800, Q9000, QX9300

Q9000 and QX9300 really works in a GL40-System ?

Posted by: pckraddler 2012-11-25 06:58:40

Are you sure that Q9000 and QX9300 work in a GL40-System ?

Both, the Q9000 and QX9000 does have a FSB of 1066MHz !

Until now I assumed the maximum limit FSB of the GL-Chipset is 800mHz....

Or did you accidentially mixed these processors with the X9000 wich does have 800MHz ?

Posted by: Milos B. 2013-09-24 05:52:42

according to this intel.com/content/dam/doc/product-brief/mobile-gm45-intel-gs45-gl40-express-chipsets-brief.pdf it supports ddr3 and cpu up to 1066. but im

not sure if it can run QX9300 (after which info I'm after) as 8GB ddr at 1066 and an QX would be super fine :D

Actually the document does not say that

Posted by: David Morrell 2013-09-28 14:35:53

If you read the document carefully it states that the GL40 implements a subset of the group (GM45, GS45, GL40). Further down it states that the corresponding
graphics chip and memory controller for the GL40, the B2GL40 only supports up to 800 Mhz bus thus you would definitely not be able to place a 1066 Mhz
system bus processor in there.

Upgrading to t7700.. oopppsss.

T5250 Works Perfectly

Posted by: Chanceypoo 2012-07-08 14:55:20

T5250 Intel Core 2 Duo 1.5 ghz 667mhz 2mb L2 cache

I never thought it would work til I saw people posting great results with other processors not listed as "compatible". I had an old T5250 laying around from an old Dell laptop I
used to have. So I swapped out my Celeron 900 in my Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915 wall mart special for the Duo and applied some new thermal grease and bang! It booted
Win7 perfectly without a hiccup. It doesnt matter what kind of laptop u have. All that matters is the mobo you have and the socket of processor.

I gotta say it was an easy and worth while upgrade not to mention it was free! My laptop is much more responsive and doesn't bog down like it did with the Celeron. I noticed
the difference immediately and that was just with a bottom of the line Core 2 Duo.

T5250 costs 4 bucks on eBay.

Neo Basic B3410N

Intel Celeron Dual Core 2.10Ghz FSB 800Mhz
CLEVO Co. C4100/C5100 (motherboard)
Intel GL40 Chipset
2GB RAM DDR3 PC3-10700 667Mhz (Apacer Technology)

I would say no to the T9900 as this appears to have an fsb of 1066... GL40 only seems to work with cpu's using 800 fsb.
I have just put a T7250 in my Acer Aspire 5336 and works fine.

Just to let you all know about:

I upgraded my Acer Extensa 5235 (which does have the GL40-Chipset) again.

A T8300 is working in it now without any problems.

Therefore I assume also all simmilar CPUs (Penry-based in 45nm-Technology) will work in it.

Posted by: George 2013-01-26 05:01:09

I just try to upgrade Intel Celeron Dual Core T3100 to

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7450

I have Hp 620 T3100 Laptop with Gl40 Chipset ...and Bios UPDATED to be compatible with core 2 .....

1)I think that i had failure because of 1066mhz fsb.

2)An other reason is from difference core voltage
t3100 ---> 1.000volt - 1.250 volt
p7450----> 1.050volt - 1.150 volt

Is there any good idea?

Posted by: Drev9 2013-02-02 21:20:30

The GL40 chipset will support Any Socket P CPU with a max of 800Mhz FSB. I have owned multiple Toshiba Satellite L355's, and have installed upwards of a T9500 and
T9300 successfully. These all work:

T9500
T9300
T7800
T7700
T7500
T7300
T7100
T6500
T6400
T5800
T5750
T5550
T4200

There are plenty more, but I have tried all of these successfully in a GL40 chipset motherboard. As long as you are running socket P, and do not exceed 800Mhz FSB, it will
work.

Thank you very much Drev9. I think that t9500 is the best upgrade option.
I found a used t6670 on ebay 23.17€.
Please contact with me dr_giwrgos@yahoo.gr if you have t9500 .It is very expensive to buy a new one.

hi, i have a toshiba sattelite l450-18h. it came with intel mobile pentium t4400 and i successfully upgrade it with an t9300 core 2 duo. seems like fsb is the key to choose the
compatible processor. most significant change is the reduction in fan noise. maybe it sounds stupid but for me the fan sound makes me crazy. my leptop is almost silent
while surfing the web.
i also installed a 60gb cheap ssd and now this 5 year old leptop is really fast.
hope my information will help. you guys here helped me a lot.

Posted by: sebastian 2013-05-10 03:57:28

has somebody succesfully tested pc6400 Ram @ 800 mhz in GL40?

Ram
Posted by: ozlay 2013-05-10 11:22:58

ram is always backwards compatible so evan if it dont run at spec 800mhz the ram will still work however as long as your cpu has a fsb of 800mhz then pc6400 should
work just fine at the defult 800mhz but that also depends on if your board is ddr2 or if its ddr3

conclusion: pc6400 will work with GL40 chipset asl ong as your board/laptop supports ddr2 ram

Core2 Duo T9500

Core2Duo T9300 - yes

Core2 Duo T9500 - yes
Xtreme X7900 - no

I currently have the Core 2 Dup T8300 on my gl40 (had Celeron T3500) as it was a lot cheaper than the 2 you have there.
Check the amount of copper you have on the CPU before buying one as they are a little bit hotter than your current CPU (they need more cooling).

Best upgrade for a GL40 is a T4500 2.3Ghz cpu - runs as fast as any equivalent core 2 duo - and crucially is a lot cooler. I have experience of T5750 running so hot it shuts
down under prime 95 Linpack in under a minute - you have to be v careful with older core 2 duos on this chipset.

"
I upgraded my Acer Extensa 5235 (which does have the GL40-Chipset) again.

A T8300 is working in it now without any problems.

Therefore I assume also all simmilar CPUs (Penry-based in 45nm-Technology) will work in it.

Any potential CPU working with the GL40 should not exceed FSB800.

upgrade T3200 to T9300 in L300-1CU

Posted by: Toshiba L300-1CU 2014-02-10 12:31:36

After reading this thread I decided to ignore intel's website and take a punt and upgrade way beyond their obvious options which looked very limited.

I went from:
Pentium Dual T3200 (2GHz 1Mb cache with 667MHz FSB)
to:
Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz 6Mb cache with 800MHz FSB)
($50 from ebay)

It works perfectly and is much, much faster. Just remember to update the BIOS first and use thermal paste on the new CPU and you can't go wrong.

To those who've already posted many thanks as it gave me the confidence to take a punt!

I am writing this on an old TOSH Sat c655-s5049 running a $35.00 t9300 cpu from ebay. I'm going to test out a t9900 I have currently in an old HP dv6. But I know the
t9300 works fine, the bios (1.7) is what I'm running as well, be sure to up your ram and use a good quality thermal paste when you do the swap. Get some duster (canned

Hi guys, can you help me a little bit?

I have an Acer extensa 5235 with an Intel Celeron 900, Penryn, scoket P (478). The chipset on the motherboard is GL40 rev. 7.0 and the southbridge is 82801IM (ICH9-M).
Yesterday i bought an P7350 with 2.0 ghz, 3 mb cache, and 1066 fsb, and it isn't working. The new proc fits perfectly in the socket but it doesn't boot and the screen remain
black... nothing on the screen. put back the old cpu and it's working.
So, i'm wondering what cpu i can buy to upgrade the old celeron?

Acer extensa 5235

Because the new CPU is 1066 FSB, and the chipset is support 800 FSB.

Celeron 900, 2.2GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB, Single Core.

I believe the L2 Cache and Front Side Bus(FSB) have to be the same or it wont work. Make sure to update the BIOS to the latest version 3311.

1066 FSB vs 800 FSB

Posted by: mosh8877 2014-03-17 22:28:37

I'm writing this on an old Tosh Sat c655-5049, upgraded from a celeron 900 POS to a T9300 Core Duo. Both the old 900, and the T9300 are rated at 800mhz FSB, however in
my nerdy/Frankenstein dementia I upgraded an HP pavillion dv6-1245dx with a T6500 to the T9900. Here the HP mobo only takes ddr2 sodimm memory (I have 4gb in it) and
the sucker is screaming at 3.1ghz. No issues even though the T9900 is rated at 1066mhz. My next step is to try an intel Core 2 extreme Q9300 in this toshiba. Always go for
broke, at least you'll learn your limitations

Did you manage to get the q9300 working in the end?

10671
10674
10676
1067A
Many Intel mobile processors with FSB 800MHz and Socket P will be worked on our laptops. Find processor by CPUID using cpu-world site

Intel Celeron 900 > Intel Core 2 Duo T9300

Posted by: Arif Ullah 2014-04-04 20:00:26

I have upgraded my laptop successfully from an Intel Celeron 900 (which came as default) to an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300. No setup required, just insert, and turn on your
computer. Windows will state it needs to restart to make changes; after restarting you're good to go.

As Drev9 said, any CPU will work with the GL40 chipset, as long as the CPU is for socket P, and runs at 800MHz FSB (cannot be higher).

Posted by: Arif Ullah 2014-04-19 21:43:52

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it'll work. But you need to consider the TDP, it's rated as 44w, whereas the T9500, T9300 and all others are rated at 35w.

Regardless, I think it'll work to be honest. The TDP shouldn't really affect most laptops, as the X9000 is designed for laptops/notebooks anyhow.

CPU compatibility
Posted by: PineappleProducer 2014-07-08 21:58:29

Has anyone tried upgrading the CPU in a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5968? The only time I attempted to, the laptop didn't even turn on. The CPU I was trying to use was an Intel
Core 2 Duo T9600. The CPU currently in my laptop is an Intel Pentium T4200. After finding out that the chipset in my laptop is GL40 Express, I've been trying to find a
processor that's compatible, but I'm still unsure. I'd like to try to upgrade the CPU if possible, so if anyone has any suggestions or answers it'd be very much appreciated.

Upgrade Outcome on CQ50

Posted by: NitPicker 2014-09-10 13:56:07

Upgraded a Compaq Presario CQ50 series processor from the Intel Celeron 757 single core to an Intel T7500 Core2Duo and it works fine. Wish I had just went on and got the
T9300 now.

One thing I noticed is the GL40 chipset is limited to 667mhz. I even got some sticks of DDR2@800mhz to match up with the FSB of the newer processor hoping the new ram
would operate at the highest speed, but it didn't.

The ram works fine, just at 667mhz and the primitive bios is no help with absolutely no ram settings at all. Was hoping there might have been a modified bios on the internet
but all I could find was the ones offered on HP's site; version F.65 along with older versions of the same.

Seems like there has to be a way to manually change that setting. It's also not Dual Channel mode either, but in Asymmetrical mode, which I am not familiar with. I have a
feeling it's just a built in limitation placed on the chipset by Compaq/HP at the time, or perhaps related to the mode the ram is operating in.

If anyone knows more about the topic please feel free to respond.

UPGRADE THE CPU

Posted by: David 2014-11-22 13:29:52

The problem isn't your chipset, although you should make certain to have the last BIOS update available, the problem is your CPU, try taking it up to a T9500 like I did, or
the X9000, just be aware that the X9000 does use more wattage than the T9500 does, the T9500 I consider to be the fastest C2D that doesn't use more than 35 watts.
However if speed is all you're after then the X9000 on a budget chipset is AWESOME-SAUCE LOL!!! Let me know how it turns out for you :)

UH-OH...
Posted by: David 2014-11-22 13:42:14

Read your entire post and it seems you may be locked out due to HP's "BIOS controls" as I like to call it...case in point, I also own a Compaq Presario C500 laptop and it
came with a single core Celeron (horrible), and I took it up to a T7600 Core 2 Duo which it maxes out at since it's chipset is older (945GM), however...the problem I'm
having is that supposedly the 945GM chipset does support up to 4GB ram, however the laptop's board always rejects any 4GB kit I install on it, and that's not all, I even
tried upgrading the wireless chip from an 802.11g to an 802.11n and it works if I do the swap while the machine's in sleep mode, however, if I reset the system it refuses
to reboot because of HP's stupid BIOS, which not only refuses 4GB ram but also any newer wireless tech as well, EVEN THOUGH it works!!! So my point is that you'll have
to swap out that BIOS for a modded one, otherwise you'll continue to have problems. I got lucky with my Toshiba Satellite that I also have in that some lady was going to
throw it into a dumpster but instead gave it to me! Best dumpster laptop EVER LOL! PEOPLE CAN BE SOOOO STUPID!!!

Success Upgrade Packard Bell - NJ65

Hi, after your many last post, guys, I want to test this with a 103 EUR CPU, found on eBay : X9000 - 2.80GHz - 6M - Cache L2 - 44W TDP - IT WORKS LIKE A F***ING CHARM -
WOW !!!! Came to a T4400, the challenge is high cost just for 0,6 Ghz but 5M cache L2 more. Whith a SSD 128 Go SanDisk (50 EUR) and a Intel AC7260 wifi N card (25 EUR).
I've got a Ultrabook for less than 200 EUR ( The laptop give me for free because keyboard out of order. A Acer emachine keyboard is compatible (it coast 17 EUR - less than
original packard bell) and Kingston 4GB DDR2 already installed.

Disassembly completly this laptop model for cpu swap and cpu fan lubrification (WD40) and clean motherboard. Bad surprise !!! Not really a socket P !!!!! My gosh !!! I can
read mPGA 479M on socket !!! But my T4400 is 478 pin CPU ??? I put on regardless the socket number, the X9000 - SLAZ3. Just reassembly : CPU with Noctua Thermal paste
(for the 9W TDP differency !!!!), front cover, led monitor, ssd, memory, battery and POWER ON .... And (after a bad trip) it WOOOOOORKS !!!! yeah !!! Everest check up for a
safety check and temp ... No problem to return.

Config:

- Socket P ?? (Looks like an write on white color socket mPGA479M)

- Chipset : Intel Cantiga GL40
- Memory : 4GB DDR 2 Kingston (up to 6GB and 8GB, when as soon as possible, for testing)
- SSD : Sandisk Ultraplus 128Go
- Wifi : Intel AC7260 N - 300Mbps
- OS : Windows 7 x64 Integral.

Open to your question for everset report en CPU-Z ...

like Celeron Dual Core T3500 but also works fine :) i'm still looking cheap T7700 and will see does it work...

I changed old cpu(intel celeron 575) to used from ebay (intel t9300) on: motherboard (PE2L) and socket slot(mPGA479M) RAM4gb. So i doubled cores and performance.
Which i saw by updating scores at geekbench's. The fan isn't screaming anymore and the operating systems work faster.

I've seen others on here with an L355 the T9500 worked, but on mine it just posts a BLACK screen and no post messages... does nothing but sit there. Why would that be?

I upgrade bios to 2.20 (latest to date today 5/4/2015) and I was on 1.90 before. Could I have ruined my ability to use a faster CPU by upgrading my BIOS?

Acer eMachines E528-2325 CPU Upgrade Limits?

Posted by: the Guy who can't afford a Mac 2015-05-12 16:57:33

Hey, I have an Acer eMachines E528-2325 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on one partition, and Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10074 on another
partition, and, of course, it has the Intel GL40 Revision 7 Chipset. This laptop originally had 2 GB of RAM (2x1GB) and an Intel Celeron 900 Single Core (2.2 GHz/1 MB/800
MHz). I upgraded the RAM to 4 GB (2x2GB), and installed an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 Dual Core (2 GHz/2 MB L2 Cache/800 MHz). Although it runs faster, what's the maximum
upgrade I can get? Anything quad-core? or Dual core of 2.4 GHz or faster? I need a bit faster for my games. The Core 2 Duo upgrade was well worth it, made my games A LOT
better and faster, but I could use a bit better if it's under $30 and will run on my laptop. I will upgrade the BIOS if I have to, so, what's the best CPU I can successfully run in this
laptop?

e528 CPU upgrade

Posted by: Hulla Balloo 2015-05-13 18:37:23

Basically, it needs to be socket P and it needs to have an FSB of 800MHz. That unfortunately means no quad-core support. However, there are some pretty decent
processors available, still. The best one possible is the T9500, but it's usually around $50. The next best one is T9300, and it can usually be had for $30 or less. I usually
go for the T8100 for price alone, since it's around $5 on eBay, but if I was to pick the best possible performance for the price, it'd be the T9300.

i have the same laptop and need help D:

Compaq CQ61-420SO with T7700

Posted by: Better off now ... 2015-05-18 11:32:27

I upgraded T3100 with T7700 as found cheap one round the corner. Working straight out and windows performance check gives index 5,9 for CPU and memory instead of 4,9
(Win 7 Home)
Laptop is now more responsive, but still needs to be considered if SSD hard drive is required to speed up things.

Thank you to keeping this page up as this was helpful reading.

BTW, GL40 if I read it right, can provide CPU voltages from 1.000 to 1.500 as CPU requires. So, you don't need to worry about CPU voltage level match when selecting
processor.

Posted by: bencuri 2016-03-05 16:46:09

If the chipset is GL40 as I wrote just before you that the T9500 is possible, I am using that with this chipset. Other stronger CPUs are either 45W or higher in FSB. But
maybe they would also work. Others have to confirm about that.

Posted by: stathis 2016-03-07 09:48:27

Who processor match;cq61-430sd gl40 chipset.i have celeron 900

Posted by: George 2016-03-23 13:27:50

I think next processors will work with all computers based on GL40 chipset, they must have 800 MHz FSB, here listed from best to less powerful ones:
T9500
T9300
T8300
T8100
T6970
T6900
T6670
T6600
T6570
T6500
T6400
and so on...

Posted by: George 2016-03-23 13:34:30

Of course, they will have to be on the same core type, these are Penryn core processors, the other core processors, Merom, will work with same core processors family
substitution, I think, because of limitation of BIOS to the same core family.

Re. my data point

Posted by: Conundrum 2016-03-13 07:14:21

T7300 seems to work in even older Acer machines, I have it running in my 5230 at the moment.

I did notice that the BIOS stops at about version 1.6, even though the basically identical 5720 goes higher.
The limit seems to be in the physical Flash chip which is a 2MB (16Mbit) part on the later models.
Interestingly this can be in principle upgraded to 128Mbit without too much hassle and this is an ongoing project for me at the moment so I can natively boot OSX, Linux and
"OtherOS" with a single press of a key during boot.

Cpu change
Posted by: Ahmed 2016-04-22 20:42:05

If you want to change Cpu here are the things that you have to look for(pc or laptop) :

1 Chipset:its in your motherboard CPUZ will help you to find it the 2 processors must have the same cipset.

2 socket: it must be the same socket (size).

3 TDP example: 45,65 W(watt).

4 Bus speed(FSB) (Front side bus): the 3 words are the same its preferable to be the same, but if your pc or laptop manual says it can handle more speed, then you are good.

5 Technology : Example 45NM ,Its important to be the same as the processor you want to change

Lastly: your Pc or Laptop motherboard BIOS needs to be up to date go to you manufacturer ASUS, GIGABYTE , or if laptop DELL, ACER web site they will provide you with
latest bios try not to download any bios from the net cause you might harm your laptop or pc and make a coffe machine out of it :) , thats all you need if you have all these
then you are good to go Buy cheap laptop with good chipset that can be upgraded with used processors or new one form ebay Trust me its alot cheaper than buy somthing
you dont exactly need but it has what you want and alot of other things that you dont need :) , first time writing on net and last time :).

Replaced Celeron 900 CPU with a T6500 successfully. Then tried a T9600, no luck, probably because it's a 1066FSB and the CQ60's GL40 chipset only supports 800MHz cpus
-- according to several comments this forum. The fastest 800MHz CPU is a T9500--I will try one, wish me luck.

eMachines E528-2325 CPU Upgrade Success

Posted by: ComputerNerdInside 2017-03-14 08:34:04

I have an eMachines E528-2325 with this chipset, originally with an Intel Celeron 900 (Single-core @ 2.2 GHz)

I Upgraded it to an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (Dual-core @ 2 GHz) successfully.

After while list night I upgraded it to an Intel Core 2 Duo T6670 (Dual-core @ 2.2 GHz) and it runs perfect. And due to the smaller feature size and addition of SSE4.1
compared to the T7250, it should also be more power efficient!

I also have my 2 sticks of 1066MHz ddr3 RAM (2x2GB) from my MacBook7,1 for now, until I get my trusty Mac running again. Either way, with 4 GB of dual-channel memory
and the T6670, it runs great. Now I'm just looking for an SSD. I'm also curious if anyone has tried any form of the Core 2 Quad in this chipset and it work? Anyone?

T9600 has 1066 FSB!!

GL40 only supports CPUs with 800/667 FSB!!
T9500 has 800 FSB and is the therefore the fastest CPU for the GL40.
How ever best value is the T9300.

As long as the New CPU has 800mhz and socket p (478), recomended T9300 (cheaper than T9500)

I have tried both T8100 and T8300 in this 5737Z and 7715Z with GL40 chipset and it works fine :-)

Probably go for a T9500 in time.

Pity I have no access to the advanced BIOS, but that is an OEM issue.

Try getting Throttle Stop (free software), u can use it to modify the CPU speed via software rather than through the BIOS which in my case its locked. It works, but i
havent bother increasing it since i have a laptop and i am already at the max cooling threshold i want to take this laptop with stock cooling.
