File | Export | Ventsim

1.0 Purpose
Allow the user to export their tunnel centerlines and associated reference data (solids, surfaces
or polylines) into Ventsim for ventilation simulation. The export will significantly reduce the time
required to setup a Ventsim project.

The Activity Types and Tunnel Sections settings from a Deswik.IS project can be exported
across to pre-define the tunnel shapes in Ventsim. If these do not exist, the user can set these
values as Attributes on the design centerlines.

Also, attributes can be used to populate the Ventsim Layers (Primary, Secondary and Air Types)
used for filtering as well as any other attributes they want to send across into Ventsim to define
the airway properties, eg Resistance.

In addition, if the tunnel centerlines have been broken up by periods, eg months or years, using
the Deswik.IS reporting tools (Reporting | Cut tunnels and outlines by date), these can be
exported as Stages to allow the user to quickly setup the network at points in time when they
wish to analyse the ventilation, eg at the end of every year.

Export tunnel centerlines: Toggle on to export the tunnel centerlines to be used in the
ventilation simulation. Select the layers containing the polylines you wish to export.

Filter: Specify a filter to apply to the polylines to limit those to the exported

Selected - Visible - All: gives the user more options as to which polylines they export

Use Deswik.IS activity types to define tunnel profile properties: If this is toggled on, then the
tunnel Activity Types setup in the Deswik.IS will be exported to Ventsim (as TUNNEL PRESETS)
along with the Tunnel Sections in the CAD project (as TUNNEL PROFILES).These profiles will
be assigned to the exported tunnel centerlines to define the size and shape of the tunnel.

If this toggled off then the user can define the profiles to use for each tunnel based on either an
attribute or a default value on the following page which only appears if this option is toggled off.

Export all polyline segments: If toggled off then only the first and last point of every polyline will
be exported to represent the heading. This can result in a very strange looking network if the
tunnel centerlines in Deswik.CAD have curves. The total length of the polyline will be sent
accross to Ventsim. For example:

Original centerlines in Deswik.CAD:

With just the first and last points of each polyline exported:

If this option it toggled on, then all of the segments on the polylines will be exported. This is more
desirable if the shape of the tunnels needs to be maintained, however it may lead to longer
simulation times in Ventsim due to the number of airways exported:

If all of the segments are exported:

Simplify polylines to reduce the number of segments: Toggle this option on to simplify the
pollylines as a part of the export process to reduce the number of points along them and hence
the number of segments exported. Enter the simplification tolerance (or distance) Note: If this
oversimplifies the airway segments, rather than running this option, the user should manually
simplify the polylines themselves prior to exporting.

The result with a simplification of 5:

Export reference data: toggle this on to export reference data to Ventsim. This can be toggled
on independently of importing the Tunnels (either or data type can be exported). Select the
layers containing the Polyfaces or Polylines to export. Note, Ventsim only supports these types of
graphics.

Note: The graphics will be exported to a Ventsim layer of the same name as the
Deswik.CAD layer they are on. Only the last layer name will be used, ie if a solid is on layer
0\SURFACES\TOPO, it will be exported to a Ventsim layer called TOPO.
If the user chooses not to export the tunnels as well, when Next is complete, no further
pages will be displayed and the reference data will be exported.

Filter: Specify a filter to apply to the reference data to limit those to the exported

Selected - Visible - All: gives the user more options as to which reference data to export

Output Ventsim file: the Ventsim file to create.

The following page will only display if the option to Use Deswik.IS activity types to define
tunnel profile properties is turned off. The user is able to select how to define the tunnel
profiles using either attributes on the polyline, or a default value.

Height: The attribute on the polyline containing the height value to apply to the tunnel profile. If
this value does not exist, or is <= 0, then the Default value will be used. If the Graphics Attribute
is set to <None> then the Default Value will be used.
Width: As for the height, but defines the width of the tunnel profile
Area: As for the height, but defines the area of the tunnel profile. This is only used if the Shape
Type is set to 4 (Irregular)
Perimeter: As for the height, but defines the perimeter of the tunnel profile. This is only used if
the Shape Type is set to 4 (Irregular)
Shape Type: As for the height, but defines the Shape Type of the tunnel profile. This needs to be
set as a numeric value where 0 = Square, 1 = Circle, 2 = Arched, 3 = Shanty, 4 = Irregular and
any value >= 5 references an existing Shape Type in a Ventsim model. Note: a Shape Type >= 5
should only be used if merging into an existing Ventsim model which has existing Tunnel Profiles
matching the Shape Type number.
The following page allows the user to specify attributes to be sent across to fields in Ventsim
used for filtering and colouring purposes.

Export Primary layers: If toggled on, then the unique values in the specified Attribute will be
used to create Primary layers in the output Ventsim file. A colour will also be applied to each
Primary layer value.
Export Secondary layers: If toggled on, then the unique values in the specified Attribute will be
used to create Secondary layers in the output Ventsim file. A colour will also be applied to each
Secondary layer value.
Export Air types: If toggled on, then the unique values in the specified Attribute will be used to
create Air Types filters in the output Ventsim file. A colour will also be applied to each Air Type
value.
Export Stages: If toggled on, then the unique values in the specified Attribute will be used to set
the Stage in the output Ventsim file. Stages are used in Ventsim to define different points in time
when the vent network will be analysed, eg at the end of every year.
Note: If the tunnels have been turned into a schedule in Deswik.IS, then run the tool to split the
development headings into time bins (Reporting | Cut tunnels and outlines by date). Assign a
Start and End date as well as a Period Number to the output centerlines. Use the Period Number
to define the Stage. The dates can be set in the Rock Age fields.
Set the stage number so that tunnels in earlier stages are included in later stages as
well: Toggle this on to assign the tunnels to multiple stages. eg if the stage number on the
tunnels represents an incremental step in time, eg year 1, 2, 3, etc then with this toggle on, the
stages will be sorted numerically and the tunnels on stage 2 will be assigned to both stage 1 and
stage 2. The tunnels on stage 3 will also be assigned to stage 1 and 2. This allows the tunnels to
be used in multiple stages of the ventilation simulations.
Create Level filters: If toggled on, then the unique values in the specified Attribute will be used
to populate the Level filters in the output Ventsim file. The vertical extents each Level filter
applies to will be read from the graphics with a matching Level attribute value.
Set rock age on tunnels: If this is toggled on, then the rock age is set on each tunnel as the
date the heading was started and finished.
For example, the following data exported from Deswik.CAD to Ventsim is coloured based on the
region of the mine, as exported to the Primary layer in Ventsim:

The final page allows the user to specify other attributes to populate for the tunnels based on
either an Attribute value on the polylines, or a default value.

Ventsim Property: select the Ventsim property to populate. A list of the available Ventsim fields
is provided.
Attribute: The attribute on the tunnel polylines to take the attribute value from. If <None> is
selected, then the Default Value will be used
Default Value: the default value to assign is the Attribute does not exist on the poilyline, or it
<None> is selected for the Attribute.
Note: each of the values exported to Ventsim must be in a valid format for Ventsim to accept, ie if
Ventsim expects a numeric value between 0 - 1 for the field, then the value must already match
these restrictions as no checks are done on the values during the export.
Upon clicking Finish, the export will be run and the output file created.

The centerlines will be imported from the Ventsim file. The Tunnel airways will have all of the
Attributes assigned from the properties in the Ventsim file.

The polylines will be colored based on the Primary layer color value (if it does not exist, the
secondary layer color will be used if it exists)

Any reference data (the test file Stope Triangulations below has some) will be imported into a
child layer of the same name as it appears in Ventsim.
