Content Standard
The learner realizes that information in a written text may be selected and organized to
achieve a particular purpose.
Performance Standard
The learner critiques a chosen sample of each pattern of development focusing on
information selection, organization, and development.

Preparatory Activities
A. Prayer
A student will lead the class in the prayer.

Class monitor will be asked to check the class attendance.
Procedure
A. Review
In recapitulation of the previous lesson, a brief review session will be administered
through the “Tic-Tac-Toe Review Game”.
B. Priming
This is a thematic lesson demonstration inspired by a world-renowned reality TV show
“Pinoy Big Brother”. Before an actual discussion begins, students are already grouped into
four teams. Each group may only advance to the next task upon completing the previous
activity. At the end of the discussion, all groups will be rewarded the key to the “Big Brother
House”. The whole theme of this lesson presentation primarily promotes collaboration
towards development of the students’ reading and writing skills.
Motivation

Pictionary
Each group is given a particular concept to guess out. But instead of giving verbal
cues, one member from the team will be asked to draw pictures related to the concept.
Motive Question: How will you relate patterns of development to the field of reading
and writing?
C. Activity
Task 2
Decoding
Each group is provided with sample statements with some highlighted letters from
which students will have to decode a word that represents each pattern of development.
D. Analysis
Questions for processing:
“Based on the sample statements, how will you describe each pattern of
development?”
E. Abstraction
Task 3
# E2 = Exemplify to Explain (Visual – Aided Activity)
Each group is tasked to pick and explain an image which best describes each
pattern of development.
Formative Assessment
Students will be asked to identify the pattern of development used in the given passages
through an interactive slide presentation.
Valuing/Application
Students are asked to relate the concept of patterns of development to real life
situations.

Instructions:
Each group is given a writing prompt in which members will have to assume a specific role
for a particular social context. The main task is to produce a written output that explains,
describes, addresses, illustrates, or solves the given issue/topic. Each group will also be assigned
to at least two patterns of development which they will have to employ constructing their written
output.
