The Wáura of Brazil

The Wáura is a tribe in Central Brazil. They are in one of the thickest areas of the Amazon
Rainforest. They have got their own language and their own way of life.
The Wáura are very short and have got straight, black hair. The men have got faces with
black patterns on and the women have got red patterns on their bodies. The Wáura are famous
for their necklaces and bracelets. There are many different colours to choose from - red, yellow
and black are the most popular. The paint on their bodies and jewellery are a sign of beauty and
wealth.
They haven’t got TVs or electronic games. So, what sports and hobbies are there? First of
all, the Upper Xingu River is the best place to catch fish, which the Wáura are very good at. On
special days of the year, there are dances and music to celebrate. Also, Brazil is famous for its
beautiful pottery and the best pottery in the area is from the Wáura tribe.
