I involve in a lot of conversations daily with my friends, family, study groups, school friends, seniors,

teachers and many more. I did not used to analyze them, I thought the things are spontaneous and
things just happens the way they are supposed to, people behave instantly without any thinking. But
after the class I got to know why certain people behave in a certain way, how a conversation can
lead to different results, how the same words can be interpreted in different ways and how a person
can show different behavior. We usually put a label on a person or a group and assume them to
behave in a certain way but there is a pattern of behavior that each person or group exhibits.
Depending on the context or the situation the same person can behave like an adult, a child or a
parent or due to attitudes, ideas or feelings absorbed by a person in his upbringing, he carries the
same state forward. We call these states the ego states and now I can understand that in which state
a person is in while conversation. Now I know that due to inappropriate ego states, conflicts occur
among people. If the people involved in communication properly understand each other’s ego states
and reply accordingly, a lot of miss understandings, conflict can be avoided. I got to know my mix of
ego states and surprisingly I knew that I scored high on nurturing parent ego states. People who
have average scores over all the ego states are good in handling situations because they can easily
shift between different ego states.
