Sampling Design

Population parameter of Interest: Percentage of Beds having Net

Stratified By Region

Western Region Central Region Eastern Regions

Two strata per region

Districts Districts Districts

5 districts were
selected from each
region with probability
proportional to size

Two PHC Two Non PHC 2 PHC and 2 Non

Villages Villages PHC villages were
selected from each
district with
probability
proportional to size

From Each Village Compounds

Six compounds
were selected on
random basis
X = No of beds

X,Y Y= No of beds with net

Sampling Method: Multistage Stratified Sampling

 Region was divided into three regions wet, east and Central with each region as a stratum.
 From Each region 5 districts were selected with probability proportional to size
 From each district 2 PHC and 2 non PHC villages were selected with probability proportional
to size.
 From each village 6 compounds were selected on random basis
 From each compound, number of beds and beds with nets were recorded.

No of observations:

 A total of 360 compounds were visited

 130 from each region
 A total of 3867 beds were recorded.

Design Effect:

The design effect is the ration of the variance of applied sampling design and the variance occurring
if the same sampling was done using simple random sampling method.

Due to multistage stratification and applying weightages according to the population size, the actual
variance differs as compared when the sampling was done using simple random sampling method.

Stratums:

There were 6 stratum in all:

East Region All the Districts with PHC Villages

East Region All the Districts with Non PHC Villages

West Region All the Districts with PHC Villages

West Region All the Districts with Non PHC Villages

Central Region All the Districts with PHC Villages

Central Region All the Districts with Non PHC Villages
