CYBERBULLYING AMONGST STUDENTS

Cyberbullying is not an uncommon issue nowadays. It basically happens

everywhere since most of the world’s population has the access to Internet. Because

of that, anyone can be cyberbullied, from your next-door neighbour to a famous

celebrity. This shows that almost no one is safe from cyberbullying including

ourselves. In addition, teenagers or students in secondary schools are the ones who

mostly affiliated with cyberbullying based on certain studies. Cyberbullying is not a

healthy topic. It is almost like a cancer, slowly spreading the virus throughout a

someone’s body or as simple as commenting an awful opinion towards someone’s

post on social media. Therefore, why do people mostly teenagers behave in such a

way and what are the bad effects to those who cyberbullies and are being

cyberbullied.

One of the causes on why teenagers commit cyberbullying is they seek revenge

on others. Teenagers who cyberbully other people are mostly the victims of physical

bully in real life. Since they are lacking of physical strength to fight back on their

bullies, they instead use their intelligence strength. They will start looking for pictures

that would be embarrassing to the bullies and will blackmail them. Some students

who have the knowledge could even hack into their victim’s social media accounts

and frame them of things they never even did in the first place. This way, they can

achieve their revenge on the bullies and watch them having a breakdown emotionally.

Some victims would not feel pleased until the bullies become so overwhelmed by all
the negative emotions that they would end up committing suicide. Something as

simple as this can lead to such a devastating end.

Another reason why teenagers do such a thing is they are just bored. Imagine that

as a motive, it is hard to believe isn’t it? But, that is the reality today. Some teenagers

who always look for attention and popularity online, can do whatever they might

think of and their followers might also do the same. For example, there’s a term in the

world of Instagram, called Insta-famous. It refers to a person who has thousands of

followers on the social media platforms. With such a huge number of followers,

sometimes these people get bored because they don’t know how to use the social

media platforms properly. So they will start putting negative comments or say mean

things to a person they hate in real life. Because of the thousands of followers they

have online, the effects of the negative posting can multiply because their followers

might also say mean things towards that particular person. The victim will eventually

have a mental breakdown and it might lead to a more horrible ending.

Finally, the effects of cyberbullying can happen to both parties, the bullied and

the bully. One of them is being ostracized at school. Those who are being bullied now

has gained a bad reputation due to all the harassment they receive online. Their

friends will leave them, teachers might start to lose faith I on them and even close

relatives might push them away. All of these can cause them to take a horrible action

because they might not be able to bare the suffer any longer and would try to do

something to end their misery. However, there are also effects to the bully. If the

students find out that there are bullies among them, they might also being ostracized
by their friends, teachers and family members. They can be backfired from their own

wrongdoings. Another effect is some bullies committed the crime of cyberbullying

just because they want to have a good laugh by watching other people get booed and

suffered. To make things worst, the victim might commit suicide. In the end, the

bullies will feel guilty to the victim’s family because they have caused the victim’s

death. The bullies just wanted to have a good laugh watching another person gets

booed and suffered until to a point they commit suicide. Now the bully is feeling

guilty to the victim’s family because the bully was the cause of the victim’s death.

The bullies would have to carry the guilt and the burden until they would end up six

feet under. This shows that there is no benefit of bullying, it would affect badly to

both parties.

At the end of the day, you can gain nothing from cyberbullying, you will only

feel bad from your own wrongdoings. Let this be a lesson to anyone who have to even

think about cyberbullying.
