NONRENEWABLE ENERGYS

1. FOSSIL FUEL- These include coal, oil and natural gas, Coal formed from plant matter and oil and natural gas was
formed from the remains of plant organisms.

2. NUCLEAR FUELS- These come from elements with unstable nuclei, such as uranium.

3. ELECTRIC POWER PLANTS- Electricity has contributed greatly to our comfort and to our country's development,
but we are using up valuable and irreplaceable energy resouces.

The following are some of the power plants from which we derive our electricity.

a. Hydroelectric Power Plants- These are resources of electricity by which flowing water is used to spin a turbine
connected to a generator.

(1) Binga Hydroelectric Plant- This is found in the barrio of Binga, Ifugao, Benguet. it has capacity of 100
megawatts (MW).

(2) Caliraya Hydroelectric Plant- This plant has a capacity of 400 MW energy.

(3) Angat Hydroelectric Plant- This plant outputs 245 MW.its water of approximately 800 million gallons per day is
channeled to the metro manila populace.

(4) Magat River Multipurpose Project- This project which took effect on May 7, 1975 has a total power output of
360 MW.

b. Geothermal Power Plants- Electricity comes from heat energy buried beneath the surface of the earth. In some
areas of the country, enough heat rises close to the surface of the earth.

(1) Leyte Geothermal Pilot Power Plant- provides electricity to the Kamanga residents and the city of Ormoc.

(2) Tiwi Geothermal Plant- located in Tiwi, Albay with 310 MW capacity.

(3) Makiling-Banahaw Geothermal- located in the province of Laguna with a capacity of 220 MW.

(4) Makban Geothermal Plant-Located also in Laguna which was inaugurated in september 1984.

(5) Calaca-Batangas Plant- inaugurated in September 1984 also.

c. Dendrothermal Plant- This plant utilizes wood like ipil-ipil for its operation.

d. Biogas- This is comparatively cheap because it uses animal manure in the process of producing methane gas
ideal for cooking.

e. Pilot Solar Power Plant and photovoltaic laboratory

f. Nuclear Plant-Construction of nuclear plant was attempted in answer to the growing electricity supply shortage in
the 70's.
