REACTION PAPER IN MAPEH

The movie “The Da Vinci Code” was full of mystery, suspense, and plot twists. I felt sleepy at first, but as it

progresses, I became more curious and interested. It was an amazing and ground-breaking movie. Its about a

professor-symbologist, Robert Langdon and a police cryptographer, Sophie Neveu who finds the true meaning in

the paintings of Leonardo Davinci and its connection to Religion. It features a lot of paintings from the high

Renaissance era, and cleverly used throughout the movie. Robert, who was accused for being the killer of Sauniere

tries to find the real killer, but finds more secrets along the way. When Sauniere died, he was surrounded with a

circle of blood and has pentacle engraved in his chest which symbolizes Leonardo’s famous sketch, “The

Vitruvian Man”. They said that the pentacle symbolized the devil, but before that, it symbolizes the goddess

Venus, which represents the female half of all things in the world. It actually looks like a ritual, it was so creepy

and unsettling. The first painting featured was the Mona Lisa. The words found near Sauniere’s body when said,

“O Draconian devil. Oh lame saint”. With the help of an anagram, it becomes, ”Leonardo Davinci, The Mona

Lisa”. They said that the left half was the feminine side and the right side was more masculine. And the horizon

lines are different from the opposite sides of the painting. Historians said that it was Leonardo’s proudest works

and he carries it wherever he goes to. I was curious because Mona Lisa doesn’t have eyebrows, did Leonardo

forgot to put them in.? They also said the Leonardo’s works are filled with hidden messages and codes. So they

used that as an advantage to help them. With the help of The Mona Lisa, They found the third painting, Madonna

of the Rocks or The Virgin of the Rocks. They found it by solving another anagram. When they removed this

painting from the wall, something fell, The fleur-de-lis, which helped them throughout the movie. Another

painting is The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne is depicting the mother of the Virgin Mary, Saint Anne with

baby Jesus. Jesus tries to get the grab a sacrificial lamb while Mary is trying to refrain him for getting it. It

symbolizes Jesus’ passion. After finding more clues, they found out that Sauniere was the grand master of Priory

of Sion. They went to the Bank of Zurich, where they got a deposit box. They got the box by entering the numbers

they got from the body of Sauniere. They got a box, and inside it is a cryptex. They went to the house of Leigh

Teabing, Robert’s friends. They tried to crack the cryptex, but… nothing. The police arrived and they rushed to
Leigh’s plane with his butler, Remy Jean, who turns traitor. Well Leigh turns traitor as well. The final painting

featured was “The Last Supper”. Leigh Teabing said that the person next to Jesus was said to be one of his

apostles, John. But some believed it to be Mary Magdalene, Jesus’ wife. Some historians said that It was John

because before Leonardo’s rendition of this painting, there were lots of versions of The Last Supper and in those

painting, the face of John was feminine compared to the other apostles. And also, you can see the letter M which

represents Mary Magdalene, and a “V” which means the womb of the female . And when you flip Mary

Magdalene, she is leaning to Jesus’ shoulder. And to further research, Mary Magdalene and Jesus had two kids,

so there’s a family tree with the blood of Jesus. And Robert and Sophie knew about the truth. There is no such

thing as the holy grail. The true holy grail was Mary Magdalene. And the bearer of the blood of Jesus is Sophie.

So technically, she is the holy grail. I learned a lot about Leonardo’s artworks. It conveys mysteries and

conspiracies. And at first I was scared of Silas, but as the movie progresses. I felt bad for him.
