Lesson Week Scoring Guide

Social Studies
Objective

The students will be able to understand that nations are represented by symbols and
practices. They will understand The United States of America is represented by the
American flag.

Rationale:

The formative assessment that was used to check for students understanding was
checking students’ names off anecdotal notes to check their understanding. Students have
little background in social studies. This was a quick assessment given after the students
turn and talked to check their own understanding. This helped me provide support for
further student’s social studies concepts throughout the year. A differentiated scoring
guide was not created for students because this was mostly an observation/written
assessment for my purpose.

Objective

The students will be able to describe the relationship between text and pictures in a book
in which they appear.

Rational:

The formative assessment I chose for my kindergarten classrooms was a checklist. The
checklist allowed me to make sure each student understood what was being asked of them
throughout the lesson. The checklist also let the children explain to the teacher what they
were drawing and how it related it to the text provided.

This student drew and illustration of his family. When the student was asked how his
illustration related to the text the student replied “You said we needed to draw our
friends or family, this is my family. My mom, dad, bad girl and me!”

Math
Objective

By defining a visual given on a checklist the students will be able to identify the correct
shape of a circle.

Rationale:

The formative assessment for this lesson, the students were able to point to a shape that
was a circle. This assessment was used as a preassessment for the students before the
lesson. This assessment let me understand what the students understood in order to teach
my instruction. The student’s names who were circled were able to identify what a circle
was.
