Regan Walton Final Self Report

One of my TPGPs was based around building positive relationships in the

classroom. Over the course of the semester this has been one of my greatest
strengths. Starting the semester I was able to get to know both of my classes very
well and connect with each student. Finding out what hobbies and interests each
student had helped to assess what skills they may bring to the class as well as
understand them on a much more personal level. Being a sports performance class
most of the students participated and competed in a diverse range of sports.
Keeping up with how their team has been doing and referencing their specific sports
in class activities helped to make the class personable for each student.

By fostering these effective relationships I was also able to provide an

inclusive environment where students felt comfortable to come and do their best
without the worry of judgement. Although there was a large gap in skill levels
between students, they were not afraid to try something new and push themselves
outside of their comfort zone. Since this class has been about self-improvement I
would often see students encouraging one another to try and beat their personal
record in various activities. One of the most rewarding experiences has been to see
how far some of these students have come in the class. Due to this inclusive learning
environment their self-esteem and confidence continued to grow by the day.

As a teacher it is crucial that we continue to adapt and try new things.

Throughout the semester I have had the opportunity to collaborate and learn from
various teachers. In doing this I was able to collect many new ideas and resources
that I hope to incorporate into my future teaching career. Having two TAs has been
an amazing experience that allowed me to continuously get two different
perspectives and feedback on my lessons. One thing that I will definitely take away
from this idea is that each teacher is different and even though you may be teaching
the same stuff its important to make your teaching practices personable to you.

Being a Kinesiology Major I was able to easily pick up on the curriculum and
teach it in my own way. I continued to demonstrate my knowledge and organization
through my preparation and execution of the lesson, unit and long-term plans. Each
lesson I knew what to expect from students and was able to assess them both
formatively and summatively. I was able to gauge what students were capable of
and always encouraged them to challenge themselves in order to see improvement
in their skills.

Throughout my practicums I continuously looked on how I can learn and

improve on my teaching practices. I maintained and was always conscience of my
professionalism in out outside of the classroom. I recognize the role that teachers
have in the community and the importance of representing the school in a
professional way.
