minutes.

C. Discussion

What are your favorite kinds of cookies?

Have you ever baked cookies and cakes? (the students will answer the questions)

The word cookie comes from the Dutch word

koekje, which means ‘small cake.’ They are (Students listening to the discussion)
available in different flavors, shapes, and
sizes.

Now, we will discuss the classification of

cookies. First is, Dropped Cookies. Cookie
batter is dropped by teaspoon on the cookie
sheet.

The second cookie called, Bars. Why is it called bars? Cookies are supposed
to be circle. Right, Ma’am?
Why? Because the cookie batter is spread
evenly in a shallow square pan then baked.
After baking they are cut into bars or
squares. We have different types and shapes,
David. Circle is just one of the shapes.

Next is, rolled cookies. These are made by

rolling the dough and cutting it using a cookie
cutter.

On the other hand, molded cookies are

cookie dough shaped by hand after chilling or
pressed into cookie molds.
Second to the last is, Pressed cookies. These
are prepared by pressing dough through a
cookie press or pastry bag on the baking What are festive cookies, Ma’am?
sheet to form desired shapes. They are
festive cookies.

Festive cookies are like holiday cookies. They

are mostly on Christmas together with hot
chocolate.

Last one is the refrigerator cookies. The

cookie dough is formed into long rolls, then it
is wrapped and chilled. The chilled dough is
then sliced and baked.

In order for you to remember the

classification of cookies, here are the pictures
of the 6 different cookies.

(the teacher will show the pictures via power

point)

Now that we’re done with the classification,

we’re going to move on the basic ingredients
for cookies.

Rachel, do you know any ingredients on

making cookies? Uh… flour, milk, and eggs, Ma’am.

Very good! Did you know that there are just 8

ingredients for making cookies? Yes, we can
make cookies without buying too many and
expensive stuff.

The basic ingredients for making cookies is of

course, flour. It can be all-purpose or cake
flour. Next is, the shortening. It’s butter,
margarine, and vegetable shortening.

We need eggs because the yolk provides fat

and give tenderness, richness, and moisture. Why do we need eggs when baking, Ma’am?
Eggs also provide protein.

We also need liquid. It can be milk or if

you’re lactose intolerant, you can use water.
The purpose of the liquid is to soften the
cookie dough.
Sugar is also one of the ingredients on
making cookies.

The last one is the leavening agents.

What are the leavening agents, Ma’am?
One example is baking soda. It adds volume
and lightness to cookies.

Now that we are finish in the ingredients,

let’s move on methods of mixing cookies.

Michelle, please read the first method.

Creaming. Cookies need adequate creaming

next method because it is mixing. Lightly mix mixer when doing creaming.
the flour to avoid overmixing. Overmixing
makes the cookie dough tough.

The last method on mixing cookies is the

rolling.

What do you think is the tools or equipment

when doing rolling, Jozel? The tool that we’re going to use is rolling pin.

Very good, Jozel! We need rolling pin to

flatten and make the dough smooth.

So, now that we’re done for our lesson

today, we’re going to a recap.

D. Generalization

correct answer. Once you’re finish, raise the
board.
