Homemade Body Wash Recipe

INGREDIENTS

 1/3 cup castile soap (where to buy castile soap)

 1/3 cup honey, preferably raw (where to buy honey)
 1/3 cup olive, jojoba, refined avocado, or almond oil (where to
buy olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, and almond oil)
 30-60 drops essential oil, optional. I usually don’t add anything
because the body wash already has a light, honey scent.
However, if I do it’s something kid-friendly, like sweet
orange, vanilla, lavender, this sweet dreams blend, or this
nighty night blend.
TO MAKE
Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix until thoroughly combined.
Pour into a squeeze-top or pump-top container.

TO USE
Shake well before using. Add body wash to a soft natural sponge or
loofah sponge and use like you would any body wash.

STORAGE/SHELF LIFE
Up to one year.

Homemade Deodorant Recipe (That really works!)

When I started making this recipe I used coconut oil as the base.
However, I’ve found that skin soothing shea butter is a better option
because it’s not greasy and absorbs quickly, which is super
important if you’re getting dressed in a hurry.

Are you ready to kiss your store-bought deodorants goodbye?

Alright, here’s the recipe!

Ingredients:

 3 tablespoons baking soda – if this feels like too much after

trying it, decrease by a tablespoon and increase the arrowroot
powder by one tablespoon (where to buy baking soda)
 5 tablespoons arrowroot powder or non-GMO cornstarch
(where to buy arrowroot powder , where to buy non-GMO
cornstarch)
 6 tablespoons shea butter (this is what I use)
 30-60 drops essential oil (tea
tree, frankincense, lavender and patchouli are good options)

To Make

In a deep bowl, mix baking soda and arrowroot powder (or

cornstarch together). Using your hands or a fork, work in the shea
butter until it looks like very crumbly dough. Add in essential oil if
using and then whip the deodorant together using a hand mixer. It
will seem too dry at first and you’ll wonder if it’s really going to come
together, but it will. You do need a deep bowl, though, because in
the initial stage of mixing you don’t want the powder to go over the
side of the bowl. Transfer to a clean glass jar – I use a 4 ounce jar
like this one.

To Use

Using your fingertips, scoop out a very small amount of deodorant –

really, a little goes a long way – and rub it in your underarm area
until it’s invisible. The deodorant will absorb quickly and keep you
smelling fresh, but if you want extra dryness protection you can
apply a layer of arrowroot powder over the deodorant using a
makeup brush.

INSANELY EASY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER RECIPE

Why do I love whipped body butter? Let me ask you this:

Does your moisturizer make you nervous?

Let me guess:

It’s either filled with questionable ingredients or wildly expensive. Or both. (Here’s a list of
chemicals to avoid in body lotion.)

Like you, I’ve been seeking a natural alternative to those bottles of creamy (but chemical-
laden) conventional lotions.

It hasn’t been easy.

Coconut oil has always been a top contender, but it wasn’t until I tried a new coconut oil
body butter recipe that I finally found my personal holy grail moisturizer.
WHY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER WITH
COCONUT OIL?
I’ve been having an on again, off again love affair with coconut oil as a moisturizer for a few
years now.

Why?

I love that it’s pure, natural and even inexpensive.

But we don’t always get along, and in the winter things get hard. Literally. I practically need a
jackhammer to get enough coconut oil out of the jar to moisturize my dry winter skin.

This is a serious problem, because I’m a big fan of convenience, and wrestling with a jar of
coconut oil isn’t exactly my cup of tea in the wee hours of the morning.

What about heating up the jar?

Heating the jar to melt the oil never worked for me, either, because I chronically forgot to do
it!

So most of the time I’d end up digging it out with my fingernails, or I’d just give up and go
back to my old lotion stand-by.

But deep down I felt there was a way to work things out. Coconut oil and I were meant to
moisturize together. I just needed to figure out the how.

Here’s what I did:

One day I ran across a recipe for whipped shea butter, and this got me thinking:

Can you whip coconut oil?

Well, by golly, I had a brand new KitchenAid mixer sitting on my counter (my husband sure
knows how to melt a girl’s heart on Christmas!) and five gallons of coconut oilsitting in my
pantry.

Why not give this coconut oil recipe a go?

Here’s what happened:

The result was a superbly light and fluffy moisturizer that far exceeded my expectations. With
a jar of this on hand, I doubt I will ever be tempted to fool around with expensive store bought
lotions ever again.

Want to try it out? Here’s how you can make great homemade body butter with
whipped coconut oil:

DIY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER RECIPE WITH

COCONUT OIL
I love that this coconut oil recipe only requires one (yes, one!) ingredient: coconut oil.

Anything else is completely optional.

It also only takes a few measly minutes, and you’ll have enough whipped body butter to last
at least a month or two. In fact, if you get carried away, put some in an attractive jarand it
makes a great gift!

Here’s what it costs:

It feels sinfully luxurious as a moisturizer, and yet an entire jar of it costs less than $2 to make
if you buy your coconut oil in bulk.

What you need:

 1 cup coconut oil
 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional)
 a few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance (where to buy essential oils online)

What to do:

1. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. Note: Do not melt the coconut oil first. It will
only whip up if it’s solid.

2. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy
consistency.

3. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room
temperature, or in the refrigerator if your house is so warm it melts the oil.
Body Butter Ingredients
 1/2 cup Shea Butter
 1/2 cup Cocoa Butter or Mango Butter

 1/2 cup Coconut Oil

 1/2 cup light oil (like almond, jajoba or olive)

 Optional: 10-30 drops of essential oils of choice (I use Lavender)

Body Butter Instructions

1. In a double boiler or glass bowl, combine all ingredients except
essential oils.

2. Bring to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are
melted.

3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Add essential oils if using.
4. Move to fridge and let cool another 1 hour or until starting to harden
but still somewhat soft.
5. Use a hand mixer to whip for 10 minutes until fluffy.

6. Return to fridge for 10-15 minutes to set.

7. Store in a glass jar with a lid and use as you would regular lotion or
body butter. If your home stays above 75 degrees, it may soften and
need to be kept at the fridge, but it will stay whipped at a temperature
lower than that.
8. Enjoy!

SAU Peppermint Whipped Body Butter Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup cocoa butter (like this)
1/2 cup shea butter (like this)
1/2 cup sweet almond oil (like this)
1 tsp vitamin E oil (like this)
2 – 4 drops peppermint essential oils* (learn how to get my favorite
essential oils at wholesale prices here.)

Directions:

1. Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a medium sized pot
over low heat. Stir to combine until it melts completely. Remove from heat.

2. Thoroughly mix in the sweet almond, vitamin E,  and peppermint oils.

3. Chill in your refrigerator for an hour or two. You want the mixture to firm
up without getting too hard.

4. Once chilled, use a stand mixer (I love my kitchen aid with whip
attachment) or hand mixer to mix until you get a decadent whipped
consistency. Scoop into a jar or container. As long as you are using quality
oils this homemade lotion should last for 6 – 12 months at room
temperature. If your home is extra toasty it may melt but you can re-chill
and whip it up again with no problem.

*NOTE: If you are making this whipped body butter for little bodies you may
want to choose a different oil like lavender which is more highly recommended
for small children.

As with all homemade beauty products, make sure you follow these simple
safety guidelines.
