This story is about an impossible love.

It's winter, an engineer is sent to Massachusetts on business, and he meets Ethan at

the post office.

Ethan is a man who is fifty years old who obviously is strong and crippled. The man
gets along well with Ethan. When Ethan starts taking him from time to time to the
train station, the two men become friends.

One night, when the weather was bad, Ethan invites the man to stay at his house. In
the living room, the man hears a woman talking angry, over and over again.

The man tells us that he learned something that night that allowed him to imagine the
story of Ethan.

Now we go back in time 24 years and we learn about Ethan's life.

Ethan Frome is twenty-one years old when he marries Zenobia Pierce, a distant cousin
who cared for her sick mother during her last illness. It is a wedding without love.
Zenobia, called Zeena, does not have a home of her own, and Ethan is alone, and that's
why they got married.

After a while, Maite Silver arrives at Ethan's house. She is the cousin of Ethan's wife.
Her parents died a year ago, and she was left without anything. Zeena, Ethan's wife, is
always sick and decided to let Mattie live with them in exchange for doing housework
and helping to the sick Zeena.

Ethan liked Mattie from the beginning and worried that Zeena was too hard on her.
The two women soon adjusted to each other (more or less) and things were not as bad
