Overview
Library Management System is a software to track the books and their checkouts, as well
as members’ subscriptions and profiles. The evolution of paperless work has prompted
organizations to have a system that would manage the library effectively. Library
Management System allows you to maintain a database for new books & maintain previous
records.

Library Management System – Usage


Features may vary according to size and type of organization, some of the common features
of the Library Management System are listed below

1. Dashboard
A bird-eye view to see all the library activities which include all the information like fines,
Issued books, Issued Date, Returns Date, and Student Details & Pending Books.

2. Upload Books
To add a record of new book, the library staff needs to fill a form named ‘Add New Book’ in
which there are following fields to be filled up such as Name of Book, Date of Delivery, Book
Title, Author Name, Published Date, Published Year, Edition, Book Category, etc. They
need to keep a catalog and notice is a stick on the library notice board noticing that a
particular book is available in the library.

3. Search Book
Users can search any book by its Name, Author Name, Published Date, Published Year and
Edition by using filers in the search bar.

4. Issue a Book
While issuing the book to the students and/or teachers, the librarian will check the profile
of the student if he/she is eligible to issue a book or not. If a student already has a book or
unpaid fine then he/she is not eligible to issue a book.

In the “Issue a Book” form, all the information related to books such as accession number,
student’s name and contact details, book title, book author, issue date, return date, etc. will
be updated by the librarian.

5. Return a Book
There is a certain procedure that has to be followed by the students and librarians while
returning the book. Within the due date, the student is required to return the book.
Otherwise, the student has to pay certain amounts as a fine. The book borrowed by the
student is being handed over to the librarian and now the librarian must update status with
the respective student by declaring that the student is no longer holding that book with
him/her as well as the status of the book that it is now available.

6. User Management
Only admin will have all the system rights and he will add new users and define his/her role.

7. Keep Records
Library Management System keeps all the records of books and students. Users can
anytime time view the previous records stored in the system. Users can also update or
delete the record if needed.

8. Subject Wise Classification of Book


All the books are classified according to the subject. Users can search for any subject and
a list of books will be shown based on a particular subject.

9. Automatic Fine Calculation


Library Management System is smart enough to calculate fine by evaluating the issue date
& return date of the book. If a student fails to submit the book within the return date, he/she
has to pay defined per day charges as a fine. The fine may get high in the case when the
book has been lost or damaged by the student.

10. Reports Generation


Library Management System allows a Librarian to generate different kinds of reports like;
total no. of books, no. of issued books, no. of journals, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly
statistics, etc.

11.Student History
The system tracks all the records and shows understudy history which incorporates that
what number of books he/she has given in the past, what number of books he/she returned
on schedule and how frequently he/she charged fine for returning late or any harm to the
book.

12. Find Book Status


The system allows the user to set the status of the book for the ease of the user. The status
will help the user in the selection of whether the selected book is available or not.

13. User Registration
Admin can register a new student by entering the fields: Name, Father Name, Gender, Email
Address, Contact Number, CNIC/Student Card, and Residential Address, etc. Admin has
the right to update or delete information.

14. User Portal


Library Management System provides student portal so that student can view his/her
information in one place. Students can view his/her Profile Information, Fines, Return Dates
of Issued Books and all the Details of Issued Books.

15. Notifications
Library Management System allows generating notifications about due dates, reminders or
any announcement.
