Abstract
Today most of the library is using either manual system for tracking the day to day activity or
they are using desktop, spread sheet like MS Excel application to manage the day to day
activity. In this proposed Library Management System, it will run in client server mode and
user can check the book availability, they can search the books, library staff can issue, receive
book, and management can check the report. System will store historical data. Management
can anytime view the total book status, library card status. The e-Library Management System
is used to overcome the entire problem which they are facing currently, and making complete
atomization of manual or semi-automatic process of library management system. This project
of “E-LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM” of gives us the complete information about the
library. We can enter the record of new books and retrieve the details of books available in the
library. We can issue the books to the students and maintain their records and can also check
how many books are issued and stock available in the library.

1
Introduction
Information Technology has revolutionized the life of human beings and has made lives easier
by the various kinds of applications. In the light of the rapid changes with the use
of Information Technology, there are many tools, technologies and systems that have been
produced and invented. This project is concerned with developing a Library Management
System in order to make library management more efficient and easier to handle. The Library
management system enables a fully automated library service.

1. Aim and Objectives

The aim of the project is to prepare a web-based automation system for library mainly focuses
on basic operations in a library like adding new member, new books, and updating new
information, searching books and members to borrow and return books. The goals of this
project are to provide simplicity as well as security and efficiency to the management and also
reduce managing personnel in the library.

2. Languages
Many languages will be used such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.

3. Problem Statement
Today most of the library is using either manual system for tracking the day to day activity or
they are using desktop, stand-alone system to manage the day to day activity. In this proposed
online eLibrary Management System it will run in internet and user can online check the book
availability, they can search the books, library staff can issue, receive book, management can
check the report from different location via internet. It can be used multi location also as it can
be hosted in central location.

4. Scope and Features

From an end-user perspective, the eLibrary Management System Project consists of two
functional elements: an enhanced searchable database for the search books, managing library
members, issuing and receiving books and a report generation system.
Proposed system provides with following solutions:
1. It provides "better and efficient" service to members.
2. Reduce the workload of employee.
3. Faster retrieval of information about the desired book.
4. Provide facility for proper monitoring reduce paper work and provide data security.
5. All details will be available on a click

5. Modules
The software Library Management System has following main modules:
A. Membership Management: to manage the users of the library system, their categories,
restrictions etc.
B. Book Management: to manage the books in the issue and also the reference section,
their classification, department wise distribution, single title calculation etc.
C. OPAC (online public access catalog): this is the most visible part of the software
through which we can search books under various criteria like author, title, subject,
classification etc.
D. Reporting: several reports will be prepared and submitted to the respective
authorities. Every user would be able to find out their history and current borrowing.
E. Transaction section management: to manage lending and returning of books either
normally or through special permission.

Methodology
In order to provide solution in achieving the objectives, we will be carried out a detailed
literature review to better understand current issues in library researches, studies, their
operations and implementation using modern technology. Design an Online Library
Management System that can be used by both librarian and library members. Designing simple,
friendly and less complex will be the first priority. The interface will be responsive.
Implementation and unit testing will be carried out in the development cycle of the application.
Proper documentation will be carried out. Training of library staff on the software and hardware
will be introduced.

System Analysis
1. Existing System
System Analysis is a detailed study of the various operations performed by a system and their
relationships within and outside of the system. Here the key question is: What all problems
exist in the present system? What must be done to solve the problem? Analysis begins when a
user or manager begins a study of the program using existing system.
In our existing system all the transactions of books are done manually. So, taking more time
for a transaction like borrowing a book or returning a book and also for searching of members
and books. Another major disadvantage is that to preparing the list of books borrowed and the
available books in the library will take more time, currently it is doing as a one-day process for
verifying all records. So, we can say,
✓ Tracing a book is difficult
✓ Fast report generation is not possible
✓ Information about issue/return of the books is not properly maintained
✓ No central database can be created as information is not available in database

2. Proposed System
Proposed system is an automated Library Management System. Through our software user can
add members, add books, search members, search books, update information, edit information,
borrow and return books in quick time. Our proposed system has the following advantages.

• User friendly interface

• Fast access to database
• Less error
• More Storage Capacity
• Search facility
• Look and Feel Environment
• Quick transaction
All the manual difficulties in managing the Library have been rectified by implementing
computerization. Also, the system will be online so that searching a book for a member will be
easy and one touch away.

3. Literature Review
A review of literature reveals that a computerized library management system will:

• Help to improve the library services.

• Help the Liberians with management information.
• Help the librarian in reporting on the various operations of the library.
• Increase the rate at which Tasks are completed accurately.

Feasibility Analysis
1. Technical Feasibility
We can strongly say that it is technically feasible, since there will not be much difficulty in
getting required resources for the development and maintaining the system as well. All the
resources needed for the development of the software.

2. Economic Feasibility
Development of this application is highly economically feasible. The organization needed not
spend much money for the development of the system already available. The only thing is to
be done is making an environment for the development.

4
Summary
The Library management system needs to be computerized to reduce human errors and to
increase the efficiency. The proposed Library management system in this proposal will be a
computerized management system developed to maintain all the daily work of library. Library
management systems are designed to store all the information about books and members.
The main focus of this project is to lessen human effort and encourage efficient record keeping.

Recommendation
Based on the results of the findings gathered, I would like to recommend the following:
✓ The Library consider the proposed Library system for them to increase the number of
their student or user
✓ The proposed system be implemented by the library because it is more productive and
more capable of recording data in library
✓ Future researchers should continue to improve the proposed system
✓ Training must be conducted before the actual operation of the developed system
