PROBLEM: Battle of Manila

ROOT CAUSE:

1. The Americans wanted to avenge their 1941 to 1943 humiliation by crushing the

Japanese force and taking back the city which is the seat of government and capital of

the country

2. Manila’s liberation would symbolize the Americans’ determination to smash the power

of Japan in Western Pacific while allowing the Filipinos to be free

3. Manila was seen by the Americans particularly by Mac Arthur as the key to the

Philippines and the “center of gravity” which was eventually proven wrong because the

real center of gravity is in the Northern Luzon area where great battles awaited both

Japanese and Americans

4. If Manila fell, the enemy would have no reason to continue to fight

5. Finally, Mac Arthur would like to capture Manila to make it a symbol of his promised

“return.

SOLUTION:

We need to be prepared and alert at the same time in good terms and bad terms.

Because, we can’t tell the mind of a foreign country. It can change and go into betrayal

so we don’t just trust or mislead another country. Maybe there might be happen that we

do not expected. Let’s be prepared and be ready so that we will never be fooled or

humiliated like we were before.

A. FOREIGN RELATION OF THE PHILIPPINES; HISTORY AND PROBLEMS

AGAINST TERRORISM

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has been a participant in various

regional conflicts, including the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Recently, the

Philippines sent peacekeeping forces to Iraq, in addition to civilian doctors,

nurses and police. However, the Filipino mission was later recalled as collateral

for the release of a Filipino hostage. As part of a UN Peacekeeping

Operation, Philippine Army General Jaime de los Santos became the first

commander of troops responsible for maintaining order in East Timor.

The Philippines is in tension with rival international claimants to various land and

water territories in the South China Sea. The Philippines is currently in dispute

with the People's Republic of China over the Camago and Malampaya gas fields.

The two countries are also in dispute over the Scarborough Shoal. Additionally,

the Philippines has a disputed claim over the Spratly Islands.

REACTION:

The armed forces of the Philippines participated in various regional

conflicts including the Korean War and the Vietnam War, after which the

Philippines sent peacekeeping to iraq to supplement the nurses, doctors and also

police led by Gen. Jaime De Los Santos for the maintaining order in East Timor.

Present the Philippines and China are arguing, and their dispute is Camago and

Malampaya gas, they are also arguing with the Scarborough Shoal and Spratly

Island that the opinion of who is closest to him will be taken over by the hostile

territory.

B. PHILIPPINE VETERANS OF WORLD WAR

The Commonwealth of the Philippines was attacked by the Empire of

Japan on December 8, 1941, nine hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor (the

Philippines is on the Asian side of the international date line). The United States

of America controlled the Philippines at the time and possessed important

military bases there. The combined American-Filipino army was defeated in

the Battle of Bataan and the Battle of Corregidor in April 1942,

but guerrilla resistance against the Japanese continued throughout the war.

Uncaptured Filipino army units, a communist insurgency, and supporting

American agents all played a role in the resistance. Due to the huge number of

islands, the Japanese never occupied many of the smaller and more minor

islands. Japanese control over the countryside and smaller towns was often

tenuous at best.

REACTION:

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor after 9 hours of attacking Pearl

Harbor Japan also attacked the commonwealth of the Philippines at times when

America found out that the America and Filipino forces were joining forces to

defeat the Japanese forces but unfortunately it didn’t and they still lost their

guerrilla fighters. Is also important as neither many or unified force is enough to

defeat the other side and of course the unity is not yet lost.

C. TREATY IN EXTRADITION OF THE PHILIPPINE IN OTHER
COUNTRY
In the Philippines may come into effect when the Philippine

government and an international government sign an agreement through

a treaty to be ratified by their respective implementing bodies.

REACTION:

They agreed to a fair agreement because, they held it by agreement and

by vote.

D. RIGHTS AND WELFARE OF OFW
Towards this end, it shall be the State's responsibility to protect

the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The Overseas

Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) shall be one of the principal agencies

of the State to serve and promote the rights, interest and welfare of

the OFWs and their families.

REACTION:

It is right that we have OWWA because, it serves as protection of the OFW

(Overseas Filipino Workers) of abuse or harassment that their employer can do

to them because they are deserved by each of us to be treated fairly and equally

rich or poorly employed.

E. ISSUE ON SPRATLY AND SABAH
The Spratly Islands are important for economic and strategic reasons. The

Spratly area holds potentially significant, but largely unexplored, reserves

of oil and natural gas, it is a productive area for world fishing, it is one of the

busiest areas of commercial shipping traffic, and surrounding countries would get

an extended continental shelf if their claims were recognised. In addition to

economic incentives, the Spratlys sit astride major maritime trade routes to

Northeast Asia, giving them added significance as positions from which to

monitor maritime activity in the South China Sea and to potentially base and

project military force from. In 2014, China drew increased international attention

due to its dredging activities within the Spratlys, amidst speculation it is planning

to further develop its military presence in the area. In 2015 satellite imagery

revealed that China was rapidly constructing an airfield on Fiery Cross Reef

within the Spratlys whilst continuing its land reclamation activities at other sites.

Only China (PRC), Taiwan (ROC), and Vietnam have made claims based on

historical sovereignty of the islands. The Philippines, however, claims part of the

area as its territory under UNCLOS, an agreement parts of which have been

ratified by the countries involved in the Spratly islands dispute.

REACTION:

China has done wrong and unjustly because it just made the airfield on

Fiery Cross Reef within the Spratly and Vietnam, China, and Taiwan have done

wrong on Spratly Island because, they did not have enough evidence that they

are owned and only on Spratly Island.

F. ISSUE ON A GLOBALIZATION

Globalization has brought new challenges and changes, in terms of both

new risk and new opportunities. It is one of the key drivers of economic and

environmental change. The impact can be both positive and negative. This paper

explains the impact of globalization and the fundamental issues and current

controversies related to globalization (trade, investment, the IMF and the World

Bank, technology, media, culture, education, development, migration, health, the

role of women, human rights). Introduces the impact on economics, culture,

communica-tion, work productivity, ect. This paper explains also the role of

multinational enterprises, because they are key vectors of globalization and they

have become key actors in the globalization process. Globalization contributes to

accelerated economic growth, particularly through increased trade and

investment activity and stimulates economic development by integrating

emerging economies into the global economy. Advances in communication and

transportation technology, combined with free-market ideology, have given

goods, services, and capital unprecedented mobility and it is one of the reason

globalization. This paper analyzes economic issues globalization, and examines

how it might be resisted or regulated in order to promote sustainable

development.

MIKIELLA MARIE D. BETTE

including acceleration of economic growth, particularly through increased trade

and investment activity and stimulate economic development by integrating

emerging economies into the global economy things are becoming more popular
