3.2 River site Investigation
During site visit we will conduct interviews on the citizens to gather data regarding to
the old Cabula bridge incident and also conduct actual observations.
Topographic Surveying, establishing bench marks to determine cross sections and the
use of velocity-area method to determine discharge.
Desktop study is conducted with the use of the internet and its websites that focuses on
the information regarding the site which is historical and present data.
Several aspects need to be studied in the river; rainfall data, topographic data, population
and other related studies. The data was acquired from the following government Agencies: City
Planning & Development Office, PAGASA weather station, municipal hall of Baungon.
Using the Arc-GIS software we will create a topographic contour map of the site. The large
contour surrounding the area will be used as the border line of the study and will also be used to
The contour as shown on the image below serves as the border line of the study. (insert image)
3.3 Calculations
3.4 Simulation
Hydrologic Engineering Center's (CEIWR-HEC) River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) website, HEC-
RAS is a computer program for modelling water flowing through systems of open channels and
In using HEC-RAS geometrical representation, river width, depth, bridges, etc. River cross
section is also needed. We will use the software to conduct Steady-flow simulation, perform
calculations and modelling such as static modelling and river flow modelling. (Zdzislaw
Kowalzuk).
Using Lidar technology of Phil-Lidar 1 and 2 producing digital elevation data is used for
stitching the river bathymetric data. Bathymetric surveys allow us to measure the depth of the
water body as well as map the underwater features of the body. In this study, Lidar is also used
