REACTION PAPER

The seminar was organized by the student of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng

Marikina particularly Masters in Business Administration student that was entitled “4th

Industrial Revolution: A New Chapter in the Philippines’ Business Environment” last

November 10, 2019 at the Centex Building, Marikina City Hall, Marikina City with the

total attendees of over 100 students.

This seminar was composed of three sessions with three different topic and

resource speakers. The first topic is an Overview of Fourth Industrial Revolution in

which Dr. Tabassam Raza discussed. He discussed the history of each revolution

from first revolution which was focused on water and steam-powered mechanical

manufacturing, to second in which focused on electrically powered mass production,

to third which was focused on integration of electronics and IT to automate

manufacturing and lastly the fourth revolution in which focused on automation based

on cyber-physical systems, big data, cloud computing and more. He also discussed

how the fourth revolution works like how does the system of data analytics, wireless,

cloud computing, sensors, automation, artificial intelligence, augmented virtual reality

and 3D Printing. He also discusses the difference between an Organizational Chart of

past Industrial Revolution to Fourth Industrial Revolution. Moreover Dr. Tabassam

Raza topic was focus on the opportunity to unite global communities, to build
sustainable economies, to adapt and modernize governance models, to reduce

material and social inequalities, and to commit to values-based leadership of emerging

technologies.

The second topic was Total Quality Management in Higher Education

Institution through outcome-based learning which was discussed by Dr. Elias Sampa.

In this topic, he discussed the educational theory of outcome-based education in

which focused on educational system around goals. He also discussed that outcome-

based education focuses on the skills and result achieved by the student as the most

important aspect of education. He discussed that instead of ranking and exams, the

use of assessments, opportunities and classroom experiences should provide

necessary support for the students to achieved the goals.

The last topic was focused on Impact of Fourth Industrial Revolution to the

Logistics Management which was discussed by Dr. Federico Figueroa. He was the

Logistic Manager of KFC in which he focuses on how Fourth Industrial Revolution take

place on Logistic side. He discussed that a business philosophy is managing the

balance between supply and demand by coordinating and integrating all of “value

added tasks into a seamless, cost effective process”, from the customer through

external and internal partners, and back to the customer. He also discussed the Basic

Supply Chain and Extended Supply Chain. Added to that he discussed the Logistics

and Supply Chain Management Evolution on which the Fourth Industrial Revolution

focused on Cyber Physical System. He also discussed the Delivery Cost Optimization

Model and Holding/ Carrying Cost Optimization which he also added Warehouse
management System, CCTV’s, Transportation Management System (TMS), GPS

Tracking System and Key Metric for Supply Chain Management.

All in all, the said seminar was focused on how Fourth Industrial Revolution

affect all aspect like changing how we live, work, and communicate. It’s reshaping

government, education, healthcare, and commerce and almost every aspect of life.
