Within the given 60-minute session, learners are expected to:

1.) familiarize the most commonly used functions in Microsoft® Excel;
2.) use some of the several condition functions (summation, subtraction, average, countif, and
averageif) in Microsoft® Excel;
3.) Apply Microsoft Excel as a viable tool in market research and product development.

B. ACTIVITY (Motivational)

The learners will open My Computer or This PC in their respective computer unit and open
My Documents “MY ACTIVITY” file name and read the instructions carefully.

C. ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask questions to the students randomly.
1. What is the answer? What strategy did you use to find the answer?
2. How did you find your strategy?
3. Do you have any idea of any functions in the MS Excel that can help you do the computation
easy and fast?

D. ABSTRACTION
(Discussion through PowerPoint presentation)
 Sum - a function used to compute for the summation of the number of a range

 Subtraction – the process of taking other quantity away from another under specific
rules to obtain the difference.

 Average – is a function used to compute for the average of the number of a range.
The syntax would be
=average(cells involved)
  Countif - used to count the cells with a specified content within a range
COUNTIF Function Syntax:
=COUNTIF(range,criteria)
Where;
Range = the cells where the counting will take place
Criteria = the label or value that determines if it is to be counted

 Averageif – is a function used to compute for the average of a range if a certain

condition is met
AVERAGEIF function syntax:
=averageif(range,criteria,average range)
Where;
Range = the range of cells where you want to look for the criteria
Criteria = a value or label that determines if a cell is part of the range to be average
average range – the actual range of cells that will be averaged

E. APPLICATION

Open My Computer or This PC in your respective computer unit and open My Documents then
open “EXPLORATION” file name and read the instructions.

V. EVALUATION

On this stage, the learner will open My Documents in the computer and open the file name which is
“My Understanding” and read the instructions.
