NON-AFM MEMBERS MAY BE INCLUDED UNDER CONTRACT AND PAID AT THE SAME RATES:
Musicians who are not AFM members may be included under contract, with these fees applying, provided that a
temporary membership fee (work permit) is paid for each participating non-member. The standard filing fee per
musician, per contract is $35. Any such permit fees we collect will be held in trust for one year, and will be applied
to their membership dues, when a non-member joins our association and the AFM. Our information services and
contract enforcement as well as pension contribution are then accessed by these temporary members.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES AND FEES:

Pension Contribution: An additional 10% of scale fee is payable by the employer on all contracted engagements
within our province. The employer or leader must calculate and contribute this to the local as a cheque made out to
the Musicians' Pension Fund in Canada.

Per Diem: A food allowance of $50 per day is to be paid to each musician in addition, for every travel day to and
from any engagement that requires more than two days travel per performance.

Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve: For engagements taking place on these days, each musician will be paid
at a rate three times the listed rates for the applicable venue or performance type.

Non-performing Contractors: Fees for arrangers, non-playing leaders and other non-performing members are
same as leader fee.

Doubling: Normal doubling rates apply. This means that musicians who play more than one instrument will be
paid an additional 50% of their basic scale wages for the first additional instrument played, an additional 30% of
basic scale wages for the next additional instrument played and 20% of basic scale for each other instrument
played. These amounts become part of the scale wage and pension contributions are made on these amounts.
Doubling is not paid for a keyboard player playing a second or third keyboard instrument.

Percussion: doubling is paid if you play more than one category:

Category 1 – Drums and Accessories (snare, cymbals, bass drum, tom-tom.)

Category 2 – Tympani
Category 3 – Mallet Percussion
Category 4 – Percussion
Category 5 – Drum Set

Brass and Woodwind:

If you play more than 2 instruments within each instrument family it would require doubling fees. For example, oboe
and English horn would not be considered doubling. Flute and piccolo would not require doubling. Playing any more
than two trumpets would require doubling. More than two saxophones would require doubling. Playing instruments
from two families (e.g., flute and saxophone) would require doubling.

Travel: Musicians are to receive an additional travel allowance if they are required to travel more than 100 km from
home to perform an engagement. Travel allowance is based on a rate of 35 cents per kilometer calculated from
highway map distance. This is payable to each musician who drives their own or a rented vehicle to and from the
engagement. In addition, for each musician required to travel by ground or air to and from an engagement, an
additional amount of $50 per musician per travel day will be paid if the performance(s) require more than one
overnight stay per engagement.
