perfect for the members will be able to show a handful of injustices which are evident even here in our
country. Prior to this, we seek to spread awareness on peace, injustice and safety. This story was chosen
with a hope of opening the eyes of the people while entertaining them.

II. ANALYSIS

Summary

On a Halloween night, October 31, a Henry got on a train and seated near the window. As usual, he
would read a newspaper to pass his time while waiting for his destination point. He saw a news article
about "the silent tongue killer", a serial killer known for his way of slicing the tongue of his every victim.
It was written there that the killer caused another murder last night. He became scared but interested in
the case at the same time. Suddenly, a lady sat beside him and looked at the news article he was
reading. She told her that she is a policewoman and the serial killer mentioned in the article is not yet to
be found and that the police are currently investigating the mysterious case. After their conversation
about the news article, a bald man approached the policewoman and tried to flirt with her. The woman
paid no heed to the man while Henry got this feeling inside of him that the bald man is the mysterious
tongue killer. He tried to tell the policewoman, but she told him that it was all his imagination. The
policewoman got off the train after that. Henry, on the contrary, did not get off the train for he wanted
to prove to himself that the bald man is the killer. He decided to follow the bald man until he got off the
train. Then, as soon as the bald man got off, Henry silently walked behind him, hoping not to be noticed.
Henry got closer and closer to the bald man and immediately tried to get the knife he always keeps in
his briefcase. As soon as he did, he mercilessly slit the throat of the bald man. After that, he sliced the
tongue off the dead body. Henry disappeared slowly unto the darkness of the Halloween night. It turns
out that Henry was the "silent tongue killer" all this time.

Adaptation

For the promotional materials, we decided to create a trailer and posters that will encourage the
audience to watch or read the story that we have chosen. We believe that having these promotional
materials is sufficient to promote the story.
The story that we have chosen, "The Silent Tongue Killer" is a short story which takes place inside a
moving train. For the trailer, considering our budget and time, it is nearly impossible for us to replicate
the same setting. The reasons are, first, there are no trains that we can use for there are no trains in
Pampanga in the first place. Second, we cannot shoot in a moving vehicle like jeeps or cars because we
do not have connections with anyone that can help us shoot in their vehicles. We cannot also expect
them to lend their vehicles for it will be a big trouble for them. And third, We cannot afford to pay even
if someone is willing to lend us their jeep. To make it easier for us, instead of looking for a train that we
can use to shoot, we just made it simple and went to a fast-food restaurant and shoot the important
details there. We found it acceptable and appropriate to use a restaurant as the setting because it will
not affect the plot of the story. By also making it this way, we can expect people to connect and relate
more with our chosen story.

We found out that adapting the story as it is is boring, so in the trailer, we added some spice into it
to make it more interesting. We used the characters' perspective or point of view to let the audience
connect and be attached to them and to have them experience what the characters are feeling. We
wanted to convey the emotions and what the characters are thinking. We shoot this part in our
groupmate's community. Aside from adding the point of view of the characters, we also added
flashbacks to imagine what the characters have been through in the past. It was added to make it more
exciting. The same is done to the posters that were made to promote the story. We made it exciting by
focusing on the characters' story.

We might have changed and added a lot of things in the setting and characters but we made sure to
stick with the plot of the story. The changes that we have made certainly do not interfere with the
message that the story wanted to convey. All of the changes were made so that the audience can be
able to relate and connect with the story more and to promote it excitingly and interestingly.

III. CONCLUSION

Since this story portrays injustice and violence, it can be used to spread awareness regarding these
issues. In goal 16 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, it aims to "promote peaceful and
inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective,
accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels". We believe that this is also what we seek for and this
is why we chose to create this adaptation. As students, this may be the only thing we can do—to use
our voice in spreading awareness and educating people. We cannot do further more such as to "provide
access to justice for all" and to "build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels". We
cannot achieve all of these all by ourselves. This is why to meet these other plans, we will do it our way.
And it is by educating people, especially the adults, and inspiring them to do these agendas. We will do
these with the use of posters and trailers. We want to stimulate awareness regarding these issues with
the use of our chosen medium.
