The Celts were hardy people ruled by strong Kings. They were seen as a belligerent people
by the Romans who saw their lack of organisation and professionalism as a sign of inferior
intellect. Whilst they did not have the professionalism of the Romans they tended to
become frenzied in battle making them unpredictable and dangerous.
Gaesum
A throwing spear with a small metal tip that throws 10” and hits on a 5+. A Celtic unit can
both throw their spears and charge an enemy in the same turn.
Lancae
A throwing spear with a long metal tip designed for punching through armour. Throws 10”
and hits on a 5+RM (Regardless of Modifiers) against cavalry units only. A Celtic unit can
both throw their spears and charge an enemy in the same turn.
Great Skirmishers
Any infantry units that consist of twenty troops or less can be given the Skirmish special
rule (point cost applies).
After the Melee Step is completed (including Bravery Tests), any Celtic cavalry unit which
is still in combat can pull away from its attacker and move 12” away in any direction other
than through the enemy unit; the cavalry unit can then reface up to 90°. The enemy unit
remains stationary and cannot reface.
Poor Bravery
The Bravery Test for all Celtic units (unless stated otherwise) is taken at 40% not 25%
remaining models of the original unit size. i.e. A Celtic Warrior unit of 10 troops will run
when they have lost 6 of their own unit.
Ringmail
Ringmail is a crude armour type where metal rings were sewn onto material such as
leather. Ringmail counts as Light Armour.
Chainmail
Chainmail links metal rings together to form solid protection. Chainmail counts as Heavy
Armour.
A Celtic unit that has a small shield, gains a +1 modifier against enemy melee attacks only.
Spear
A spear has a -1 melee skill modifier against cavalry units, and denies a charge bonus from
both infantry and cavalry units from the front arc only.
Furor Celtica
When charging with any Celtic unit, the front rank always gains two attacks. This applies
for the first round of combat only.
Feared
If the enemy charge a feared celtic unit, that enemy suffers the Poor Bravery special rule
until the combat is finished. The Never Fall Back rule supercedes Feared.
Sword
Most Celtic warriors would carry a short weapon. Empires classes these weapons as
Swords which give no additional bonus in combat.
Carpentom
Celtic chariots have a maximum unit composition of one, therefore move, shoot and
charge individually. Each Carpentom has three lives.
Celtic Warriors
Celtic Warriors were renowned for their bloodlust during battle. With javelins and spears
raining down on the enemy the warriors would roar across the battlefield taking the
enemy’s heads as they went. They were proud of their fighting skills and covered
themselves with woad and war trophies – usually the heads of the enemy – so that all could
see their triumphs and tremble.

Celtic Warrior Bands were elite warriors, they prided themselves on wearing the most
fearsome woad and huge horned and plumed helmets or spiked hair to make themselves as
imposing as possible on the battlefield. This was the rank every warrior aspired to. In close
combat with their war axes they would fearlessly hack at anything that stood in their way,
their intention to cut the enemy into a thousand pieces

The Celtic light cavalry tended to use small shaggy coated ponies which were sturdy beasts.
Some of the wealthier Celts would use Cobs, these were larger than the ponies and so
quicker and more agile, however they tended to also be less controllable and there was a
risk of being thrown in the midst of battle. The cavalry often worked with the chariots,
breaking the enemy ranks and then closing in for the kill using the height and speed of their
rides to full advantage.

Carpentom
The lightweight chariots were pulled by sturdy ponies the charioteers practised constantly
and took pride in their manoeuvrability and the speed with which they could turn their
chariot in any terrain. They would dash into the enemy lines helping to break them up and
causing chaos and confusion. The spearmen used the chariots as mobile platforms meaning
they could quickly get into position but could also continue to harrass the enemy en route.

Noblemen on Foot
The nobles fought in two ways, either on foot, or on horseback. The nobles who fought on
foot were vicious men often competing against one another in battle they were a powerful
enemy. Using long bladed swords it is said they often had to stop mid battle to straighten
their blades such was the ferocity of their attack.
2 Two Handed Axe +2pts per model -2 melee skill (lose any shield upgrade)
4 Poisoned Weapon +1pt per model Reroll up to 3 failed melee hits per turn
Noblemen on Horseback
Nobles on horseback tended to be a little more restrained than their counterparts on foot.
Riding the big bay horses which while fast where not able to carry heavy loads the rider had
to balance the number of weapons taken with the strength and mobility of his horse.
Nobles on horseback would often use either a small round lightweight shield or dispense
with the shield altogether in favour of weapons. These nobles would incite their own troops
and would challenge the enemy leaders to duels in an attempt to intimidate the enemy.
Replace Horse
with*:
4 Draught Horse 2pts per model Grants the Furor Celtica special rule
*A unit can take both the Poisoned Weapon upgrade and a different horse upgrade.
Celtic leader’s and Kings were voted into power rather than inheriting it. When a leader
became old, weak or even heavily scarred he would stand down and a meeting would be
held amongst the people to decide which of the nobles would take his place. The leader
was expected to lead his troops into battle and fight side by side with them.
Unless stated otherwise, a Uiros Uiramos follows the same rules as a Leader from the Empires
ruleset.
