Philosophy 1000: Bridging Course

Application Paper: Experience of My Body

I. PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION
The philosophical question Moga is trying to ask in the article ‘Experience
of My Body’ is the question “What is the body?” This question is being asked
because Moga has seen the problem that concerns our embodied self and the
objective analysis of man as he views the body as secondary and unimportant.
Oftentimes, we forget the value and importance of our body as part of the self and as
a part of our existence. Hence, Moga provided arguments in the article that would
explain why our body is equally important with our soul and how these two are
unified. The question asked is important because it aims to discover the very nature
of the embodied self and what are the roles of our body in discovering the self.
Therefore, the philosophical question is truly is ‘What is the body.”s

II. CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS (PRIMARY REFLECTION)

Moga’s answer to the Philosophical Question objectively is the necessity of
the body for our Selfhood. Immersed selfhood and my body is the necessity of my
body. The feelings are embodied in the actions and sounds. Human having
feelings demands body for the expression of such feelings. We cannot imagine any
sort of communication without bodily activities. We objectify the body as body
for we see body as embodied with feelings and emotions. We cannot do any kind
of activities without the living of the body in particular way. We cannot situate
ourselves enabling our existence without the involvement of the body.By objective,
we mean that the is used as an instrument to embody feelings and emotions, you are not
involved of what is happening to your body. We just need our body for existence.

III. PHENOMENOLOGICAL METHOD (SECONDARY REFLECTION)

Moga's answer to the Philosophical question subjectively is describing how
the body is our opening to a world. The body plays a big function in our
existence. The body is our opening to the world, either it opens it up for us or
shuts us off from the world. Our bodily skills open up our life to different
worlds and enable us to live and exist in such kind of worlds. As our body
grows, our bodily skills apparently declines which means that our body also
closes the door to the different worlds. What we mean by subjective, how we
are now involved with what is happening to our body.We are now involved of
what is happening to our body, we now know of what is our bodily skills and
we now give importance to the experiences we have with our body because
these skills and experiences will determine the world we will be. We are not
just an embodied self but an embodied self with a goal or purpose. The goal to
be gain more bodily skills and with the purpose is the world we live in and our
involvement brought more focus on the body, the very purpose of the body.
The 4 bodily immersion in a world is included because you are now involved
in a world not just an embodied self
