Classroom Procedures

The procedure for the beginning class is that students will enter the class and

take out materials that will be needed for the class period. Backpacks will be stored

under or beside the student’s desk and the students will be in their assigned seats.

Ending the class, the students will be given time to clean up their area and will be

released once all students are sitting in their assigned seats and the classroom is clean.

Student work will be turned in at the beginning of the class period in buckets

labeled with each class period. Work will be handed back when students are working

independently or within groups. Students who are absent are expected to check the

daily folder for any assignments they have missed. If absences are planned in advance

the student should discuss with the teacher what they will be missing.

Late work will be excepted with a 10-30% point deduction depending on the

lateness of the assignment. Assignments will be excepted up until the last Friday before

the quarter is completed. Points will not be deducted for late assignments if the student

is absent but the assignment will be expected to be turned in the day the student

returns. If assignment is not turned in the day the student returns it will be considered

late.

The procedure for grading will be on a mastery scale. Only work that is important

will be graded, work that is designed only for practice will not be for a grade but will still

be required to be completed so understanding can be measured. Late work will still be

accepted with a slight deduction in points but not a zero unless the assignment is not

turned in by the end of the quarter. Each student will be allowed to revise an
assignment once for a higher grade. To revise an assignment each student will be

required to turn in a revision sheet.

Communication with parents will be done anytime there is a change to an

assignment such as a change to the due date. Parents will also be informed on how

their student is doing at least biweekly as communication with parents is key to ensuring

the success of students. I will be available for parents to email me questions or

concerns with the understanding that I will respond within 1 business day.
