One of the biggest problems currently facing the world today, including Brazil,

is the irregular disposal of solid waste and as a sustainable alternative to the final
disposal of waste are sanitary landfills, which is the most efficient form and
environmentally speaking correct to treat these wastes. In this context, the present work
presents a proposal that studied the environmental aspects that are associated with the
capture of biogas and its use from urban solid waste in landfills. Thus being presented
the advantages that are related to the generation of eminently clean renewable energy,
consequently reducing the impacts caused in the treatment process. Through a
bibliographic study this work demonstrated the steps of designing a landfill in the same
way as biogas uptake to be used as a source of energy. The goal of this work was to
present possibilities of energy generation from biogas as a suitable alternative for the
treatment of solid waste. The method was a bibliographic research. Thus, the
importance of energy utilization from biogas was treated as an alternative for a correct
final disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW).
