Business Math Assignment

1. We have, n =50, x =1113, 

1 1 1 =60 ; n2  60 , x2  1120 ,  2  70 ; n3  90, x3  1115,  3  80
(a) I f x is the mean of the entire data then,
n1 x1  n2 x2  n3 x3
x = (50x113+60x1120+90x1115)/ (50+60+90) =223200/200= 1116
n1  n2  n3
OMR
(b) For A, x1 =1113,  1 =60
Therefore, coefficient of variation=  1 / x1 * 100 = 60/1113*100 =5.39%
For B, x2  1120 ,  2  70
Therefore, coefficient of variation=  2 / x2 *100= 70/1120 *100 =62.5%
For C, x3  1115,  3  80
Therefore, coefficient of variation=  3 / x3 *100= 80/1115 *100 =7.17%
( c ) Since, the coefficient of variation of A> the coefficient of variation of B> the
coefficient of variation of C suggests that factory C is more expansive in wages than the
factory A and B. A is less expansive.

2. ( a )Let r= the coefficient of correlation between the marks in BS-2,and marks

in Introduction to BA= +0.8
n=50, X  62.4 , Y  44 ,  x  18  y  12
Therefore, y- Y = r  y /  x (x- X )

y-44= 0.8 * 12/18(x-62.4)

y-44=0.53(x-62.4)
0.53x-y=-10.93…………..(i)
x- X = r  x /  y (y- Y )

x-62.4= 0.8 * 18/12( y-44)

x-62.4 =1.2 (y-44)
x-1.2y=9.6…………..(ii)
(b) Using equation (ii) x-1.2y=9.6 let x=40 then y= x-9.6/1.2= 40-9.6/1.2=32

(d) The resulting profit= 5299.20-3450= 1849.20 OMR

5.(a) P(A)= The probability that a person gets his tyres
checked= 0.12
P(B)= The probability that a person gets his oil checked=0.29
P(AUB)= both checked= 0.07
P(AUB)= P(A)+ P(B)- P(A B)

P(A B)=P(A) + P(B)- P(AUB) =0.12+0.29-0.07= 0.34

(b) Complimentary events

(1) When a coin is tossed, getting head and getting tail
are complimentary event of each other.
(2) getting divisible by 3 and not divisible by 3 are
compliment of each other.
Having conditional probabilities
(1) A math teacher gave her class two tests, 25% of the
class passed both tests and 42% of the class passed
the first test what percent of those who passed the
first test also passed the second test?
P(sec./first)= P(first and
second)/P(first)=0.25/0.42=0.60
(2) The probability that it is Friday and that a student
absent is 0.03 since there are 5 school days in a
week, the probability that is Friday is 0.2 What is
the Pobability that a student is absent given that
today is Friday? P(Ab/fri)/P(fri)=0.03/0.2=0.1
Not independent mutually exclusive
A is the probability that a coin land heads. B is the
probability that the world will end tomorrow. We
are assuming B cannot happen. So they cannot
both happen. The events don’t affect each other’s
probability.
