JOB ASPECT FOR ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

The distinction of job aspect or career for engineers and engineer technologists are
illustrated as figure below. It shows that engineers focus more on planning and designing, while
for engineer technologists they focus more on applying the design in order to make the plan
work.

A- ENGINEERING
Engineers use their knowledge to find suitable solutions to problems. Engineers are
responsible professionals and take great care and patience and to produce instruments and
designs that will not harm the public at large. Engineer design products, machinery to build
those products, factories in which those products are made, and the systems that ensure the
quality of the product and efficiency of the workforce and manufacturing process.
Work in the engineering sector includes a huge range of occupations such as

 Product and process development

 IT support
 Consultancy
 Data management
 Research and development

B- ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
An engineering technologist is a professional trained in certain aspects of
development and implementation of a respective area of technology. In general, the work of
engineering technologists focuses more often on practical application of engineered
products and processes for a range of purposes, whereas the work of engineers emphasizes
application of mathematics and science for design/development purposes (in ways that tend
to require a more extensive theoretical foundation of mathematics and the natural sciences).
Engineering technologists are employed in a wide array of industries and areas
including:
 Product development
 Product manufacturing
 Technology operation
 Maintenance
